Hi all,

I would have though now we can ballast cars that PD would have included a way to determine the weight distribution. Has anyone come across this yet? Thanks!

That's the first thing I thought of in the ballast screen. I was looking for a % somewhere, but never found one even in the car stats on the tuning screen. You'd think that would be an obvious thing to add with the ballast feature.

I know, I can't make considered decisions without that information!

I'd assume (not tested)

Switch off tyre wear and all downforce.

Do some laps. It should be apparent by then.

Hah well despite that not being possible (my target cars have mandatory, mostly uneven downforce), no I don't think you can determine weight distribution like that! I need to make calculations.

Calcs can only get you so far as you cannot formulate the driver.

Ie there is no right setting, only opinion and lap times.

You could probably make a guess based on the driving characteristics, but they can be covered/changed with suspension tuning.

A simple %/% would be very nice.

Yeah exactly guesses aren't good enough. Here's hoping on the next patch!

Edit - I wonder if you can do it by setting the spring rates the same and measuring the travel in photomode? Difficult to find a valid reference line though.

Looks like we're in store for corner balancing through trial and error....

It's not implemented yet.
And to think they could have very easily added that information in the ballast screen!
They simply recycled the very same system from GT4 with no improvement whatsoever.

The physics engine used in GT5 just has to know the weight distribution (or at least, it can very easily derive it from other data used in the game) to simulate car behavior correctly.

I guess PD strategy is to continue with spoon-fed updates to keep the game "fresh" even after a long time. We will probably see actual improvements over past games when upcoming competitor racing game will be released (Forza4, Shift2, etc).

Why would it matter, they already sold plenty of copies

The game will keep selling for the next couple of years (of course at a lower, but continued rate), especially when people know that updates that will add "new features!" (read: features that were already in past GT) will keep coming.

Only for the hardcore, the causal crowd have sold and long gone
Casual crowd far outnumber the hardcore, and don't care about all of this stuff
