I know, but the Premium sub was already recommended above and some people don't want to, or can't pay for internet forums (like myself). I thought an ad-blocker would be a better alternative than people stopping visiting GTP at all.
No, it really isn't. Using this site while directly halting any monetary gain from your traffic is directly taking money out of pocket, the bandwidth used isn't free, nor are the servers that run this site.
The slight inconvenience of ads surely can't be that much of an issue that you're willing to put the sites you enjoy out of pocket?
I use AdBlock Plus and a cookie blocker and usually I put websites I like on the whitelist quickly, where they stay if they don't spam the whole page up with ads. GTPlanet doesn't, but the type of ads I'm getting are 80% either obvious scam or sexually explicit in a way that isn't even allowed in forum posts according to the Acceptable User Policy.
I read the posts on the first page of this thread a while back and today I remembered it and tried disabling ad blocking once more, and guess what turned up as soon as I reloaded the front page.
Obvious malware scam. And it gets worse, malware scam combined with cheap NSFW ad:
Thumbnail since I can't find a spoiler code anymore?
This type of content is a disturbance I'm not tolerating to support any site, and GTP as a generally mature source of information and discussion around the GT series, cars and all stuff around it disappoints me. As a Google Adsense client myself I know you can restrict ad categories, of course that could mean less earnings but I haven't seen a single GT, sim racing or even car related ad on GTPlanet today, browsing it about half an hour with ad blockers off.
I remember @
Jordan once stated on a news article comment that GTP gets roughly 50,000 visits per day, I can't imagine he's starving from that. I also still help the site since traffic generates a higher search ranking and contributing posts generates more traffic.
