Weird light on my playstation 2?

I've got this weird orange light on my PS2. It's one of the older ones (it was from the bundle with GT3!). The light seems to be coming from around where the online adapter is.

i have absolutely no idea what it means, and searches turned up nothing.

any help?
 
that is the light for the "s" cable I believe. Optical Sound cable. I have a sony suround sound system that I hook the cable directly to. I keep the white and red a/v cables disconected and just use the yellow.
 
no, it's not coming from the back of the ps2, it's coming from the inside, through the grill in the front under the controller and memory card slots. It's an orange light.

If it were the harddrive (which g has explained, there is none) or even the modem (which we do have on it) the light isn't exactly direct, and i'll try and take some photos of it, and get them up (or have G do it)
 
It's an all knowing eye. It will be there for a while, I've heard they'll grant wishes, but if you piss them off (i.e. try to kill them) they give you DRE's for eterninty.
 
It is actually a light for HDD access, it will flash when it tries to access a hdd attached to the network adapter. Sometimes it will do this when a game is booting up and the game checks if there is a network adapter present.

My ps2 flashes all the time with the hdd in it. I remember the first time it happened I got a bit freaked out because it looked like it was on fire or something.

That's the thing looking for HDD access?
 
Looks like a fire. Hmm. Maybe you should lay off the nitrous for a while!

I dunno. Doesnt look like a light to me.
 
it's shuts off after the ps2 powers down, abd it doesn't fade like a glowing hot, on fire part, also since the hdd slot is on the other end of the console, just how exactly can we be sure?

it only appeared after it's been dropped this one time.
 
Not to mention if it was a flame from an internal fire, the whole PS2 would burn (what with the being plastic and all), or at the very least the electronics would fail horribly due to the heat.
 
Yes, it's the HDD access light thing. I have the same ps2 from the GT3 bundle and mine lights up like that. Don't worry about it. It's like the little orange light on your computer tower that blips on and off when your HDD is working.



The LED is left of center, the most focused part of the image, at the bottom right of the metal cutout.
