Hi,

I used to be able to get my car (Clio 2000, fully modded) to go about 165mph.

Just the other day I entered the Clio Trophy and found that now it seems to max out at 120 / 121mph.

I thought maybe the Trophy race had a speed limit or something but then noticed that on the straights, the other cars were catching me up when I was doing 120mph.

So I've come out of the Trophy and just gone onto a test circuit, same problem, I've tried tuning / removing equipment to see if that was the problem but whatever I do I can't go any faster than 120mph.

Anyone had this same problem?

Hmm...how much mileage does your Clio have on it? It MIGHT be due to HP loss over time, but to drop 40mph in top speed seems a little severe. Is the car stock? Did you change any parts/settings between races? Have you checked your setup to make sure nothing has been acidentally changed (like removing a turbo upgrade for example).

If you move between Set A and Set B/C your settings are not carried over. Also, any parts bought are only installed on the current set.

Hope that helps!

ZeratulSG maybe right. You might have removed something from the engine by mistake.

Try closing the suroof, make sure all the windows are up, and remove the caravan.

More seriously, at 120 mph are you in top gear, and bouncing off the rev-limiter? If so, it sounds like you've stuck super-close gears on it. Either that or fully-customisable gears, and you've been messing with the ratios.

It's a Clio. One cylinder has probably stopped working. Or the gearstick's come off in the driver's hand. Maybe the handbrake is stuck on.

hahaha, Renaults?..

i would expect that of hyundai's.. but thats about it. ( maybe suzuki and daihatsu as well... dam hunks of crap)

Or is this a european joke?.. im from Aus, and have loved cars for a billion years, but ive always thought renault to be reasonably well respected, seeing that there neither cheap nor nasty. But then again i dont realy see them that often.

lol 👍
Most likely the speedo is broken and stuck at 120. The car is really only doing about 60.

I guess. Watching Top Gear I can't help but notice the barage of stereotypes of which I've never heard;
Alfa Romeos break all the time
Italian cars in general break all the time
Only Guardian readers* and punk kids drive Citroens
3.5 liter engines are somehow macho (maybe they think that's big? ;) )
If you drive a Celica, people will think you're gay
etc.
I guess it's reasonable that I should be so confused, as a lot of the manufacturers they talk about haven't sold a car here in my lifetime.

*I do have a vauge idea of what 'Guardian reader' means.

Yeah I would also remember though that Jeremy & Co. have a bit of fun on that show, so I would take those comments with a pinch of humorous salt :)
