So I was just wondering how long it will be till the engine blows up LOL!
But seriously just curious on what things to look out for and what not to do, the reason I'm asking is even though its his car I A.Want to know to help him out if something goes wrong and B.He is keeping it at my place right now because he has no room to put it at his house.
Right if anyone is curious It is a 1987 RX7 with 1 owner who bought it from the dealership with 311 miles on it, and that person only put 107xxx on the thing. Has one bit of visible rust bubbling and everything works on it. He only paid in TOTAL for it $2700. Oh but here's the kicker... its a stick shift and hes only driven autos! But since he lets me use it when I want while its at my place, im teaching him to drive in my 1.8 T. So hey pretty good deal right?
And sorry for the crappy pics, if anyone wants, ill take some in the daylight so you can see the odd paint job it got.

So I am gonna guess it is a non-turbo model? Those will run for a long time if you remember to add oil and do proper maintenance.

Now, that price seems a bit steep, though where in the country are you at? Unless it is a turbo, in which case the price is more around the spot...

MN. That was cheap for around here and its a non-turbo. Yea do they burn oil a lot, about how often should he add?

Rotaries burn oil by design, brand new. I'm not sure on the frequency you need to add to it, but just check it often till you get the idea. About all I can offer at the moment, not being much of a Mazda fan. ND4SPD should be able to give a lot of input though :p

Have the Apex seals checked.
They tend to go first, just before all hell breaks loose.

Check oil with every fill up, and you will get a pretty good idea of how much oil it burns.

Okay here actually...

I added the last one for a size comparison. :p

If you want a bit of performance dont bother with the standard computer, the standard computer in series 4/5 Rx7s are notoriously horrible to tune, but thats up to your friend though

I love the low-tech license plate covering.

Well im not sure if he was going to chip it, but its quite likely since he cant find the correct chip for his grand-am gt. And the real first thing he is going to get is an complete exhaust and I think a new suspension. When we first test drove it it was kinda loud and after checking it was missing BOTH mufflers!:dopey:
And as for covering, that's just how I roll.:sly: lol

Sorry for reviving this...
Well my friend got another RX7.....

this one has only 55,329 miles on it and is an '88!!!!!
And being a Minnesota car with NO RUST the $4500 is actually reasonable around here :sly:

However now he has 2 RX7s sooooo:idea:

I GET THE OTHER ONE???!!!!!:dopey:
for 200 less then he paid for it$2500:sly:
Ill post pics of what Ive done so far after the rain stops.

He should probably keep the first kicking around somewhere (friends house, backyard, wherever) for parts since they even seem to be the same color. Price sounds kind of steep though, even for being rust free considering the engine has about 5000 miles left on it before it blows up (from my experiences with RX7's anyways).

1st one is at my house 👍
no, the light in the pictures is my garage lights fault. The new one is silver/blue.
the Tan one has 107k on it runs perfect! So but understandably so....they do kill themselves when they feel like it.

Why thank you for the helpful bits of advise LOL!
although whats the point of a car if you dont drive it...
however I believe i read that in "Traffic:why we drive the way we do" cars on average are actually parked for about 92% of their lives.

Salty roads are what killed my RX-7 in the first place. Proper maintenance will keep an NA FC going for a long while. It'd be nice to do a compression test as well.

Sounds about right, you're not driving for that 8 hours or so that youre sleeping, the other 8 hours you're at work, the hour you're eating lunch at work, the hour or 2 you're making breakfast. Etc.. Etc..

Wow, I didn't even know there were any RX-7's in MN.

Also, the roads here are salty about 5 months of the year so it's kind of hard to not drive on them.

@ND4SPD:Thats what I think, with good maintenance it "should":nervous:go for some time. After all He/I have a full record of all the things done to the tan one.
and he is the 3rd or 4th owner? Also with the Blue/silver one hes the 3rd owner and that was SUPER well taken car of. And is a compression test the same procedure as with any normal car?

@Northstar3914:EXACTLY!! LOCATION!! Theres only one other FC for sale that I could find with low miles and thats a 1989 convertible with 7,600 miles on it and the dude want 14,000 FOR IT!!!! Then maybe about hmm3-5 more? And as for driving in salt, what he says is true however I think this next winter unless the roads are "okay" ill stick to the big Buick LOL.

If you have two cars and consider one of them "your baby" or something, you really should adopt a policy of garaging it and not driving it throughout the winter. Yes, you could take it out occasionally and just wash it really well, but I speak from experience when I say, that's easier said than done.. And if you do, if it's not just standing there with salt on it but you wash it, you'll drag the wet car into the garage, it'll be standing there creating more moisture and the lot. October to March/April, that's when my summer ride is sleeping.. :)

October? really Hmm I suppose snow falls sooner there :P Last year we didnt have any snow till early November. Then again we did break a few records for coldest days too :P
AH but my problem is that I cant use out garage for my cars :( the best I can do it let it sit in the driveway....

It started snowing on the 29th (my birthday so I kinda remember it).. They always salt the roads here though, regardless of snow or not.

Then you hire a spot in some garage or barn.. :) Or take it out for doriftooo in the winter, but you can't cry over rust forming then :P

Yeah, nobody really does here. Thats why if there is no rust, the cars naturally fetch a higher price 'round dees parts.

El dooriiiftoooo LOL, I think ill get some winter tires and "teeer itup"!

Keep the awesome colour.

Was the previous owner a woman by any chance?

Really?....Honestly I didnt think anyone would like that paint job....As for being a woman
I dont think so, in fact no...BUT the previous owner did get his insurance to pay for some of it because it had some hail damage then he convinced them that it needed an ENTIRELY new paint job LOL!
