On the Audi R8 LMS Race Car I just spent $500,000 on an engine rebuild and got a whole 9 hp out of it. If this were the real world, I would sue...

Sometimes I just want my cars (only some precious ones) in the best possible state and then I do spend this million on the chassis and engine rebuild... I have enough money most of the time anyways so I don't care...

And yes I'm happy having the stealth cars and they are always in top state because it just costs my peanuts (1000 credits).

Check the number of miles driven before you do that. Does is really make sense to do an engine rebuild when the car has 3,000 miles on it? :dunce:

The engine rebuild is completely useless. And here we go again with the farfetched pricing. An engine rebuild on a F1 car is around 150K. Where in the hell do they get 500,000 credits for an engine rebuild? Comepletely ridiculous and stupid IMO. Yes i know not every rebuild cost's that much but still. This is a completely useless feature..Unless you want to spend a half million for an unoticeable 6-10 HP...

And you probably gained the small amount of HP because the engine rebuild comes with an oil change, the latter being the most useful in your situation.

Why do you expect a hp increase with an engine rebuild? its a rebuild if the engine is tired, thats all

After a lot of driving, the engine will lose BHP.
So a new engine will restore the BHP back to normal.

That is my point exactly, but i would not expect extra horsepower over the standard engine after a rebuild, which,i think kdryan was expecting

But his engine wasn't standard.
It already had miles on it (not sure how much exactly).
I assume for such an expensive car it wouldn't be much, so an oil change would have sufficed.

Because a rebuild brings the engine back to its original hp after the engine has been used alot,a rebuild would not give you extra hp over and above the standard engine

I stand corrected. I meant HP returned, but since I just bought the thing, it's new HP to me...

Another thing PD shortcutted on, IIRC all engine rebuilds just cost 1/2 of the overal car cost. or 1/4, I can't remember.

The FGT costs almost 5 million.
The engine rebuild costs 500,000.
That's 1/10th.
Great value then!

I think we are getting our wires crossed, wether the car is standard or not, after a rebuild you should get the hp back after the rebuild of whatever the hp was before

No, I meant the engine wasn't a standard engine.
It already had miles on it so it was a used engine.
But the problem's solved now :)

I never followed the other threads regarding the engine rebuild, but has anyone done any testing regarding anything besides the Max HP? I wonder if throttle response, or the power elsewhere on the powerband is increased? 9 more HP on top might not make a single difference, but if the power came earlier, or more linear it could make quite a difference.

Just a thought.

I think that would be more affected by adjusting the gear ratios. Now if only we COULD adjust the gear ratios...

I know the race and concept cars tend to have very few miles on them (I saw a Bugatti with 0km on the list), so it may be that the engine actually hadn't lost any power yet and the increase was all from the free oil change you get with a rebuild.

I was under the impression that used car=dirty oil and worn out engine regardless of the mileage. This thread has at least partly cleared that up for me.

The game knows how many hp you get back when you do an engine rebuild. So why doesn't the dialogue which asks you whether you want to do it tell you?

This engine has done 3,246 miles since it was last rebuilt. A rebuild will cost you 50,000cr and will regain 12hp. Would you like to rebuild the engine now?

Yes/No

Since the game keeps track of these numbers anyway, it's a simple dialogue with a few variables. Piece of cake, really. But this "keep the player in the unclear" seems to be one of the fundamental principles of PD.
