I also noticed some strange behaviour with one specific track, occurring irregular.
It's the Green Hell. Sometimes, when close to the finish line, some track textures loose their detail maps. What remains are black and dark green shiny huge surfaces. It feels like the car is flying, but the track geometry is still there and sometimes some not all of the missing textures re appear.

I have never experienced any problems with missing textures in GT5.

Maybe it's just your PS3/GT5 that is causing it?

Same. My big-boned PS3 and GT5 haven't glitched out or anything similar to this...yet.

Well, I guess I will go for the oven trick, soon.

Happened online for me too, only on the ring. It does feel like your car is flying!

Again, it's the way GT5 streams the textures and geometry off the disk(s). The (distant) background is static, but what populates the foreground changes, and is streamed in accordingly. Presumably, this is why we have to switch focus to a different car in replays via a black screen.

When this streaming falls behind, bits of geometry or textures go missing, so you can fly over parts of the circuit - it's horrid in the dark! It happens most "reliably" on the Nürburgring 24hr layout, which is also the largest and seemingly most "populous" circuit in the game. It usually happens to me after half an hour or more of lapping / racing.

I've noticed this as well, with a different track though. My ps3 is only about 2 months old too, so I doubt it the ps3 doing it.

damnit, you could have told earlier. I was just in the moment to put my PS3 motherboard into an oven

Are you running off an HDD installation or from BR?

Why would you assume you needed to bake the ps3? I don't see anyone in the thread ever suggesting that. Just one response of someone saying it "might" be the ps3 without any actually details.

YEa this can happen to anyone. Has happened to me both online and off.

I've had a couple of occasions where part of the track has suddenly appeared grey and smooth. I think GT5 uses texture streaming (correct me if I'm wrong) I assumed it was just something to do with the texture not streaming properly. Mine seemed to correct itself after a few seconds as the texture suddenly faded into existence. It was a bit weird and unexpected, but video games will always have glitches.

One option for you could be to delete the game's install data and re-install it again.

You jinxed me :nervous: I read this thread only a couple of hours ago.

I hardly ever touch arcade, so I jumped into a Green Hell 24 HR track, 2 laps, first was wet then the sun set.

Well, it was almost full dark when I started my second lap, and the majority of the GP track section went haywire like you describe. I hit some sand traps and only made it through because the driving line was unaffected so I had a little guidance.

This worries me because I've almost unlocked A-Spec 40, and I want to do the final race in a touring car to make it competitive against the LeMans cars.

So, yay, another problem with GT5. :ouch:
