Congrats. How's the black level on yours? I have an LCD TV and my only complaint is that blacks aren't particularly black. The contrast is fine, but the black isn't deep.

Is the 360 only 1080i or is it the full 1080p resolution? I doubt it makes much difference, but I was just curious.

The black level is how dark your "black" is when the screen is dark, but the TV is on. The black level on my parents 720p Bravia LCD is great. So I wouldn't doubt Sony. :)

Well, the 360 can display 1080p, though for most games it's upscaled 720p. Supposedly, there's a few native 1080p games coming out (Lost Planet, Blue Dragon, etc).

Congrats on your TV btw. 👍

But the 1080p output is through component cables, which not all TVs support. You'll need to wait for HDMI cables.

Well, I think there is no need to open a new thread, so I simply use this one instead :).

Sony KDS 55 A 2000
I just got this 55 inch 1080 P baby. 2,5 ms reaction time and a contrast of 10000 : 1 ... yeah 4 zeros ;)

It is one of the highest rated TV's in German hifi magazines.

It is very similar to this one :

Yeah what should I say, the picture quality is stunning, although I don't have true 1080P material yet. I can only recommend this TV. Do not waste your money for LCD/Plasma, you won't get that reaction time, this deep black and this dimension for this rather small amount of money anywhere else.

One of the leading german Hifi/Video/audio magazines has this KDS 55 A 2000 on 1st place in the category : Homecinema TV's
On place 2 : Panasonic TH-65 PV 500 E for 16000 $ - yeah 16k
On place 3 : Pioneer PDP 5000 EX for 10000 $

I love it :)

VERY sweet, Max_DC! If my parents were to ever replace their, now admittedly, aging 50" Pioneer Plasma, that would be on their list. 👍

And congrats on your purchase, GJB! We will be looking at those for the PS3, or another Samsung.

Thx, can't wait for BlueRay movies over PS3 :)

32" Sony Bravia LCD HD TV

Played the 360 on it last night. NICE!
Good work GJB, anyway it looks like you have a 1080i model, but you should of saved up for a 1080p model. Anyway my next HDTV to be put in my Bedroom this 2007 or 2008 will be the 40inch or 45inch Sony W2000 1080p HDTV.

But at the moment it's retailing for over £1,500, however I can wait for it to drop down in price or I may even wait for the OLED's HDTV's to show up. Anyway enjoy you're new TV GJB, however you should save up for Sky HD now and a HD-DVD add on drive.

Also if you want a Blu-Ray player, then get the PS3, because if Blu-Ray loses, then you will not have spent £1,000 on a HD player.

What model have you got, because most of the 720p only LCD's black levels are never good compared to a LCD with 1080i as well, but if you want a good Black level LCD, then save up for the W2000 series of Bravia like I am because it's black levels are better, then most of all HD plasma's and it also has a better image then most Plasma's as well.

But just to add the better the black level, the more real the image will look like in day time and night time scenes, however if you own a Sky HD box, then the only way to see a good black level through it on a Plasma is if the scene was completely shot in HD on the best HD camera's, which do not do film.

The black level isn't a big deal most of the time because the contrast is good. With a good contrast, the blacks look very black even though they aren't, because you're comparing them to very bright whites elsewhere. The problem only occurs when you're looking at an extremely dark scene. When most of the TV is black, you can tell that it isn't black. It bugs me occasionally in space movies and other really dark settings (like all of underwold).
