A Formula for Speed!

This is the WES's first visit to GT-Mode, where most races are short, sharp, and to the point. You win the race and you win a car, end of story.
But, some of the races are like this one, and actually take some time to complete.
The temptation here, was to just jump into the endurance hall and select a race from there.
But they are all really too long for our first visit, and I didn't want to scare anyone off with the prospect of a 3hr race or something.
So, I settled on the Extreme Hall instead!
Also I wanted to make it a one make race too, and a fast one at that. So in the end I decided to use the Formula GT series as a basis.
And here we are, at the crux of the matter.

Race type : SINGLE RACE
Location: EXTREME HALL / FORMULA GT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP / RACE 4 @ HIGH SPEED RING
Car: JAPAN / POLYPHONY DIGITAL / FORMULA GT '04

Here is how to set up the race!

1. Go into GT-mode.
2. Go to HOME.
3. Now go to the GARAGE.
4. Go to the box for selecting country, and select JAPAN.
5. Go to the manufacturer selection box and select POLIPHONY DIGITAL.
6. Pick the car of your choice.
7. Exit the garage, and back out to the main screen.
8. Go to the EXTREME EVENTS HALL.
9. Scroll down to the FORMULA GT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP, and select.
10. Click OK.
11. Go to the 4th race @ HIGH SPEED RING, select, OK.
12. There are NO adjustments available to the race options, so you don't need to worry about that bit this week.
13. You may now enter the tune-up garage and make any adjustments to settings you desire.
14. Click RACE, and get on with it!

You may make ANY adjustments you want to the following settings:

• Brake Controller
• Suspension
• Transmission
• Driving Aids
• Weight balance
• Downforce

Nothing else is adjustable, and no parts can be added or changed!



DEADLINE :

Midnight GMT Sunday night, December the 2nd

RULES:

You must use the settings laid out above at all times.
You must try to keep 2 wheels on the track at all times.
An occasional off is to be expected, but use your judgement and morals to decide if you have gained from it or not. If you have gained, or feel that you have taken an advantage from the off, then please bin the race and re-start.
A.I. contact is allowed, but NO penalties are available in GT-Mode, so you must be honest with yourself and think about whether any contact was/is fair and act accordingly.
NO wall contact is allowed.
All podium times will be verified by the posting of either a replay or a photo of the screen showing your final time AFTER the deadline is past.
Any suspicious times will be investigated by either myself or where appropriate an NTSC user of my choice.
All decisions of the Administrator (me) are final, any cheating of any kind what so ever, will be dealt with in the appropriate manor.
You may discuss any splits or individual lap times, just not your final times.


Times should be sent to myself (Tyre King) via PM by the above deadline, as marked by the GTPlanet PM system time stamp.
Replays and screen shots should be posted in this thread after that time has passed.

Del has some mighty good tuning settings for all sorts of cars in GT mode .... and even though he doesn't really enjoy getting into a F1 car {twitchy beasts .. upsets your driving style for other race series} ... he can't wait to arrive at the HIGH SPEED RING ... hell maybe i can come last 2 races in a row .

Heres hoping we get to race in GT mode again .. but in a more normal car ? .. hint

Just got my home computer back from the shop 2 weeks ago and again it won't boot. I'm doing this thru the PS3 and a plug-in keyboard. It's a little harder but it works. Hey Neil have you tried using the browser on your PS3?

Did my first full run, at about lap 50 I felt comfertable with the car and track. Didn't have a single stint without a major screwup anywhere from 5 to 12 seconds. Damn the pitting takes forever and the AI's are way too slow. They become more of a nucience then drafting help. It didn't help that they were on a different pit schedule so we were in contact on many laps Think I lapped them 4 or maybe 5 times. Lots of fun though Neil and if you have the Uber save you have four pages of the F1 in every color scheme immaginable. I'll use a new one for each attempt. It's got alot of Fun Factor.

Sorry for missing the last race,I had a real bad health problem:a strange kind of bacterial infection on my eyes.It caused that my eyes were filled with blood.I looked like the devil.The doctor restricted my from the following things:watching TV,reading,driving after dark...
Now I'm better but I'm out of this round too because I have only five cars in my garage and they are all black.As I know the black F-1 car is not as the other coloured ones.It is a little bit lighter and stronger.
I have no patience to do a 24h Nürburgring to get a new F1 car.
But I'm in.
At least my eyes can relax a bit.👍

You have a Maxdrive, right? Do you have a spare memory card?

If you do........download an Uber-save! Mine gave me one of every colour of the F1 cars with 730 odd cars in the garage and multi gazillion credits.

I'll e-mail two of the one's I have found to you. All you have to do is put one of them onto the maxdrive usb pen, put your spare card in the ps2, and uncrush the save to your memcard using the maxdrive software.

They are both 100% complete, ALL cars (including blacks) undriven, all licences, all challenges & max credits

I know the procedure of the MaxDrive thing and I have a free card too,so there is no excuse for me...
Great that I'll have all of the cars.Some of them are real rarities.Once I've tried to collect all of them but I only have 530 or so at the moment.

I'm in trouble.
In lap 15,the car tends to slide in the long sweeper after the finish line,I tried it several times...Strange.
I tried to controll it,but it seems that the F1 cars are not my style at all.
Fastest lap is 51.1.

Dels F1 has no such troubles .. even on lap 16 {last stint}

Could i make the suggestion that those on the podium for this race .. post their setups .

They do so in GT-mode races in the WRS and it works there, why not here?

I'll get mine written down when I finalise it. I'm working on keeping the rear in check round turn one with the hammer completely down all the way round.
Getting there slowly but surely.

Though, that being said I can get opening laps that are under 58 seconds and laps between 50.2 & 51.0 pretty well all the time on a full fuel load. Saw a sub 50 on emptying tank earlier on tonight too!

Just got to sort out the camber of the rears to stop it braking away and I'll be sorted for a full race distance.

My fastest lap is a 50.4xx .. knowing youve gone under 50 .. will tempt me to fine tune the set-up .

Running a low ride height is a given on this track .. the downside is just a mild rubbing of the wrong ripple strip will cost a half second .

Well .. ive nearly gone permanetly trying to find a better set-up , though i did discover that the 'tranny trick' does work [for the good]

Found a faster setup .. but the rears only last maximum 11 laps ! After spending a lot of time trying , i gave up and tried a second stint on my original setup and for some strange reason the left rear wore a lot quicker than it did on the 1st stint {2 days ago} ... frustrated ; ive turned the PS2 off and have decided to go fishing ... i guess the F1 prefers to be handled gently .. get too agressive {trying too hard to get faster times} with your driving and the tyres wear much quicker .

BTW my fastest lap was a 50.3xxx .. not sure if i'll get time to go out again .

Whould anyone like to share how many laps you're getting on a set of tires? I've run twice and have a hotlap of 49.0XX, but I may be too hard on my tires.

Woh! 49.0xx! WAY too fast buddy!

I'm getting 15 laps out of the fronts and prob 18 out of the rears @ sub 50.8 - sub 50 second laps.

I can stretch them to 16 laps and then get a good strategy, ie 16,16,15,15,15, and I am convinced that is the ONLY strategy that will work!

5 pits is the optimum, 6 pits on fewer laps is not a viable opition as the lap-time difference is minimal.

Talk of 49's has got me frustrated , so i'm going back out .. might try a 5 stopper .

Never touch below 4th gear once the start is done, and stretched 4th for turn 3-4 transit. Makes 5th a little short, but increases accel out of the 4th turn so it's OK!

Finally completed a clean race under my target time. 5 stops. 49.1xx fastest lap.

Was on lap 52 of race with a 48.775 fastest lap at one point & got taken out by one of the AI. 🤬

Over 10,000 miles on my F1 car now.

OK, finalised my setup!
It gives a very consistant ride with predictable handling throughout the tank.

Has given me a 49.6xx fastest lap (with minimal drafting help from the AI, cos they were in the wrong places), but allows 16 laps out of the fronts with only minimal loss in the final lap.

well, I only had a chance to run this thing once
I used Tk's first set up as mine, didn't have time to putz with it.
I can't get the tyre wear to where he is, knew he was getting around 15 thus the nick eh ?
I got into the 49's about once a pit stop, not quite where Andy is

Time sent, and well done to the podium finishers
yeah, I know it's early, but I'm wishing them well because I'm not going to be one of them !

kept getting the AI's in the wrong place. Lapped them every pit stop, but always in the choke points. And the 49's I got were all without draft.

IMPORTANT NOTICE!

I have realised that two things have happened this week.

One, this is a very good and enjoyable race.
Two, it is/has been, Thanksgiving in the US, and some of you guys haven't had the time to do it justice.

So I have added a Poll to the thread asking if you want an extension so more time can be given for you to do the race without family distractions.

I need you to vote ASAP, and am adding an extra day to the deadline anyway. But if the poll results in an extension being wanted, I will make the deadline the 2nd of December!
