Welcome to the inaugural event of the Weekly-ish Endurance Series.
My first thoughts about which race to do first, was that I should maybe make it a nice easy race.
You know, simple track / race cars / race tyres etc,etc. But, then I realised that if we all wanted to do easy and quick races,
we would all be doing the WRS (Not that there is anything wrong with that at all! ), and this forum wouldn’t exist.
So, I scrapped my first few ideas, and came up with this one instead!

A couple of years ago, a journalist called Jeremy Clarkson, who hosts a BBC TV programme called ‘Top Gear’ took the then new Jaguar S-Type Diesel round the Nurburgring Nordschleife circuit to see what it, and he, could do. He was absolutely delighted, if not ecstatic, to do the full lap in under 10 minutes, 9:59.9s to be exact. He was then handed his oh-so-great pride back to him, in complete tatters, by a lovely young lady called Sabine Schmidt, who is one of the instructors at the circuit. She did the same lap, in the same car, with the same conditions, in under 9 minutes.
Needless to say he was a little gutted, but hid it well.
We will be going as close to this scenario as GT4 will let us, and turning it into an endurance race also.

There are not, so far, enough qualification times in yet to enable me to split us into divisions, so for this race it’s a balls-out, straight up, shoot-out for the win and podium places.

Looks good Neil, It'll be nice to have a race again. Check your PM as soon as you can, have a time sensitive message for you.

👍 .. love the Northern Loop but it doesn't like me at all :scared: .. still looking forward to getting into the S Type though .

Might be a 💡 to invite Clarkson to compete .. i'm sure he'll be delighted to race with us {he'll try anything at least once}

The car is surprisingly easy to drive, even on sports mediums! And slight miss-judgements, and two wheels in the dirt are not as fatal as usual round the 'Ring.

I have done about 15 laps this afternoon/evening. And had a few miss-adventures where the RUF suddenly appears out of no-where as I go round one of the tighter corners with the inside wheels squirming over the rumblestrips.

But it's very addictive.

Neil

Did my first run, at least I got the tire wear and pitting figured out which is way more then the AI's. Because of failure to pit when needed I went from 5th. place on lap 5 to actually winning even though at one point the TVR was 1'42 seconds ahead, but he just kept falling off the course on lap 7. This Jag is wonderfully balanced especially when taking HP and weight off it. May try a different tire/ pit strategy now that I know the limits on the tires, although I ran one lap starting with light orange and ending with bright red but the Jag handled it quite nicely.

great car. why arent all autos behaving like his gear?
i'm crap at nurbie so i'll wait for number two.
my guess would be to run it at s3 front and s2 back.
good luck all and thanks to neil for the work.

ps on the clarkson story: sabine first showed jeremy that she'd do the ring in under 10 minutes in a van which she proved by taking some transit and smacking it around. she is sort of the ring w***e with an estimated 10.000 lap experience ...

This is the perfect car in which to learn the 'Ring in. It's forgiving, easy to drive and slow enough to allow you to see the corners before you get to them.
That's why I picked it!

Sorry Buddy, but you have it the wrong way round, it was after Clarkson was jumping up and down at his 9:59.9 lap in the Jag, that she said she could "Beat that time in a van."
Then, Hampster went back a few weeks later with the New Ford Transit, and she only just missed it with a tow from a Viper.

Bit of a Top Gear addict here! I managed to do the ridiculously hard quiz off the site, at the second attempt. :crazy:

And Blake! This is nowhere near Yawn! You really have to push it hard, and take some risks to stay anywhere near the other cars in the first few laps. And you have to watch out for the RUF sliding backwards off the track all the time too (usually just before you get to 'any' corner, and he's in the middle of the track as you go round it)

Neil

That means that I am better than Jeremy...at least in the world of the simulators.:)
Got a 7'52.9xx on SportsMedium/SportsSofts front/rear combo.
Wish I drove in the real world as fast as Mr. Clarkson.:bowdown:

Neil,may I ask you how many laps can you get out from Mediums?
I can only 3,and in the end it's very slippery...
I think it's not so much.

Hey Laz, I got 4 laps on SM/SM's but the 4th lap started with light orange and were bright red by laps end. It slowed me down quite a bit but not sure if it was better then time in the pits. Gonna try SM/SS and do 2 pits and see what happens.

I can get 2 laps out of soft fronts and 3.5 pushing laps or 4 95% laps on mediums.

But I have to say I prefer the way the rear rotates better on matched tyres, and as there is no wheelspin anyway, I see no harm in using medium rears at all. In fact I am faster that way.
But I am nowhere near your time Laz, I think my fastest so far is still just above the 8 minute mark.

You sure you got the settings right? ;)

Neil:D:lol:

You know you are beatable Neil, I know it's hard to wrap your brain around that fact :):)

Check the listing in 30 minutes Buddy, and keep your fingers crossed.

"Jeremy Clarkson will be making an appearance on PlayStation 3 following Gran Turismo 5 developer Polyphony Digital's deal with the BBC to include up to 40 downloadable episodes of the popular motorsport show Top Gear as part of GT TV ... What's more, the BBC is also allowing PD to replicate the famous test track from the show ."

ALL THE MORE REASON TO INVITE CLARKSON TO COMPETE IN RACE ONE ... {even though he may decline , its worth asking}

I am NOT! (ooh, there is not emoticon for throwing a teddy about of the pram, is there?)

No seriously, I have noticed how fast Laz is getting in general ( And you are mate! :bowdown: )

I've seen his replays!!

Cool!

Would really like to kick his big, fat, balding, pompous, but hilariously funny arse in a real-time environment! (no offense Jeremy, but you wouldn't stand a chance against us lot, in a race where you have to keep the wheels in-line) ;)

Neil

Edit!
Just managed to do a 7:55.666 lap on mediums all round, going do try a 3/2/2 strategy tomorrow. Not driving any more tonight.
Feeling weary.:guilty:

Been an emotionally tiring day.

Neil

OOOPS! Couldn't get 4 laps out of SM/SM's like last night which brings me to the conclusion that I had my tire wear set wrong. No wonder I was able to come in first! I thought it was all the bonehead moves the AI's were making and they sure make alot. Oh well managed a 7'56.454 but I did have some draft help.

Great combo to start with. 👍👍

I've yet to run the qualifier (I will though) but I just had to give this a go.

Lap 1: 7'58.945
Lap 3: 7'56.861
Lap 5: 7'57.642
Lap 7: 7'48.077

The run isn't very tidy, but I hope to get another go at it later.

I didn't know Hungarians had a sense of humour {my best mate is Hungarian}

WoH!

Auspicious company!
really nice to see ya bud!

You used to have your real name in your profile mate, and you were always right down the line, I like calling friends by their real names. And you were always a friend.

Either way, welcome to the WES! The place where racing nuts of the 'longer duration' hang out!

Nice laps by the way 👍👍

Neil

Thanks.

Don't be fooled by the lap times though, they were posted to distract you away from the much slower laps in the run. :sly:
Using the d-pad & buttons doesn't favour tyre wear too well. :(

Jerry.

I thought I just had a great run, but I feel a bit deflated now, thanks Jerry.:) Anyhow with the tire wear set right I did a 3,2,2 combo with SM/SS for the 3 laps. Although Neil is right ,mixing tires upsets the balance a bit but this is so well balanced it hardly matters. Still managed to place second and lost be less then a second. Now the good finish wasn't my doing, the AI's off road antics helped tremendously. I did have a 7'56.534, my best lap was a pit lap so I don't know where that time was. Guess I'll go try again.A 7'48.077, not with me behind the wheel, very impressive time Jerry.

I wasn't fishing for compliments but O.K.,Marty,thank you.:)

Very impressive lap times.👍
A 7'48.xxx is good enough,please,finish racing NOW.
Anyway welcome here,Sphinx.

Have tried two combos .. 3,3,1 and a 3,2,2 {the second about 16 seconds faster than the first}

Lap 1. 8:03.xxx
Lap 2. 7:54.xxx
Lap 4. 7:53.xxx
Lap 6. 7:49.xxx
Lap 7. 7:54.xxx

Had a bad in lap on the second stint {8:21.xxx} not sure if Del can get time this week for a final attempt , but will try {away on business trip}

Nice times there Del, no need to run again those times are just fine:) Look at the lap times of Mr. Sphinx...very impressive eh? I'll never get near that but it's fun to try, I'd love to see any of his laps to see where I'm not taking corners as fast as can be taken.

Neil,do you want the replays this time again?
I finished with this one.
It was great opening.I had some interesting traffic situation but I enjoyed it very much.👍
