What about a CAR creator?

Hi guys! If you've played Sega GT you'll partially know what am I talking about. The idea is to choose among a certain quantity of chassis and bodies in which they could include open-wheelers, Coupes, Sedans or even LMP alike. Then, after the bodywork, chassis, and obviously the engine, suspension and in general every mechanic part, the idea is choosing among air intakes, position of headlights, form of headlights, and everything that is visible in the car. Is kind of NFS's Autosculpt (or something like that).

Imagine it! We could create nearly every car, our logo, name it and selling it on surveys or something similar. It would be great to create something as a Porsche, a Radical or something that is not in the game because of licenses, and as these creations are unofficial there won't be any trouble.

I'm just dreaming, maybe it need a lot of power and development for it to be done, but if NFS and Sega could make it, why Sony and PD wouldn't be able to include this in future editions?

Sounds like a great idea, but I'd be concerned with how they would implement it. They'll probably give out spare parts as daily sign-in bonus, and you'll be limited to building a car with just the current parts you have. Then we'll see everyone trading parts in the marketplace, and it will crash the servers and they'll put in a trading limit for car parts.

Another way they could mess it up is by making you input the characteristics you want (for examples: drivetrain, length, height, wheelbase, width, number of cylinders, displacement, suspension type, etc.), and then the game will randomly make a car with the characteristics you wanted, but it might not be exactly what you had in mind...

Yeah, here's hoping if they make a car builder it will be relatively straightforward.

I'd be happy if you could get a chassic from one of the many sedans in the game and put a bigger motor in it from the same manufactuor etc etc

For example a nissan Silvia s13 instead of the sr20 put the rb26dett out of one of the many skylines or a HR31 skyline with the gts-t motor or something along those line I think that would be a more realistic scene as it wouldn't hurt the dynamics I think it would only change the weight of the car, the HP and PP of said car.

Would it even fit? The biggest engine it ever used was a 2.4L

Yeah it's been done in a few s15 there is a s13 with a ls1 in Sydney anything can be done with enough money and engineering plus it's a game ;)

There would be a difference, not only in weight(~200lbs added), but also in weight distribution, since the RB26 is heavier and two cylinders longer than the SR20. The swap is not without its set of drawbacks.

This is something that had actually crossed my mind!

I hate to reference a Disney game, but if anyone has played 'Pure' (actually a decent game for a bit of arcadey fun), then the approach they took to creating your own ATV from the ground up is something that could be built upon. Once you reach certain skill levels, corresponding 'levels' of parts open up, allowing you to build higher performance machines as your abilities progressed. For GT, maybe this could implemented via the level system, allowing you to build club level cars from the start, track day spec cars at level 10, LMPs at level 20 and so on. Or even better imo, tie it in to the license tests, give them some actual meaning. The point being that it isnt something that can be achived through grinding or making obscene amounts of cash, its something that comes with ABILITY. All from the chassis up, with either generic packages for certain areas (a choice of road, sport, or race suspension packages for example) or mix and match individual parts of each system depending on how immersive PD want to make it. Top it off with a choice of maybe three generic body shells for each 'type' of vehicle (road, sports, exotic, open wheel, formula, off-road, classic etc etc) that can be stretched within certain parameters, as in some other games, and the ability to finish in a colour or design of your own choice and you are onto a winner.

Im not saying this system is perfect, and there are a LOT of tweaks that would need to be made, but if PD are really trying to make a game that we will be immersed in, then i cant think of a better way to do that than letting us be more creative. Whether that comes in the form of a livery editor, or a create-your-own-car function (no matter how simplified or technical they choose to make it), the fact is that it creates a personal bond between you and your cars. They arent just cars fresh from the dealer, they are YOUR cars, and no-one else in the world has an identical one.

if this is implemented into the next game they will more than likely be standard, then people will complain that it shouldn't even be in there in the first place, then we get gt5 again

I have to agree. I am not looking forward for a feature like this. There are many other things that need to be changed in the first place.

If such a feature would be included, these will be the new standards, I agree as well. That would be the only way I could accept the standard BS in GT6.

Why on Earth would they be standard if the rest of the game isn't?

I'm thinking due to practicality. A car creator with interiors and all sounds way too farfetched in my opinion.

still, I don't think that a feature like this would be necessary.

But for some reason, they'll all come out looking like this:

The interior could be the same for every car, or consist of just a few pre-made parts that could be put together. Even just having free form bodies or interiors that could be edited with sliders wouldn't be terribly difficult. PD would just need to define a bunch of parameters and leave the actual modeling to the player and the PS3. This has been done for tons of games.

Not good enough for PD. Would have to be completely different from every other game. Even if that means a messed up system where you have to collect parts and then randomly make a car out of them. :D

No, but only since people would make a ton of Porsches and there would be controversy.

I like the idea. Don't know if or when we'd ever see it. The focus right now is on the Vision cars and strengthening the relationship(s) with the manufacturers. Right now they're going to see where Vision can go. That's a good place to be! One truly big surprise was BMW introducing the M4 in GT6 before it hit the showroom. Are we gonna have more of that?
