Basically what the title says. I’ve been checking my GTPlanet account’s privacy settings, and couldn’t determine what these two sub-settings do.

Is “identities” the little window that pops up when you click on a member’s username in the forums? I have no idea what a member’s “news feed” is though :boggled:

Solution
"Identities" are external social media accounts you've listed in your profile.

Your "news feed" is your activity feed, which includes your posts and any reactions you give out.

User profile pages are not visible to the public by default, so "all visitors" is equivalent to "members only".

Just one more question, if you don’t mind.

Is it possible for an unregistered “visitor” to access or receive my “news feed”? I thought a member’s “news feed” can only be accessed by said member’s followers, and I just peeked around as a logged-out visitor, and that seemed to be the case too.

Thanks for answering my questions, and for maintaining the forums in this welcoming manner, as always.

No, an unregistered visitor cannot access your "news feed". They can only see all of your posts.

Your "news feed" data is just what appears on the "latest activity" tab of your profile. It's just a summary of your posts and any post reactions (likes, etc.) you hand out to other posts. If you set that option to "Nobody", the "latest activity" tab will be hidden from your profile, and your activity will not show up in the site's global activity feed.

I don't know why the forum software uses the term "can receive your news feed" by default. That phrase doesn't make a lot of sense and is poorly worded. I just updated the text on the privacy settings page to "View your latest activity feed" so hopefully that makes it more clear.
