What are "Failure Conditions" exactly?

What are all the features activated by "failure conditions"?

Are there any effects to the physics of the game besides not being able to wheelie or stoppie? I've turned pro mode and failure conditions ON, and I like how hard it is, but I wouldn't mind getting the front wheel up now and then.

Would turning failure conditions off make it easier to ride?

won't make the bike any easier to ride, but you'd find it harder to win with it on.

From what I reading in other posts "failure conditions" must be set to "OFF" in order to do wheelies and stoppies. Mine was set to "on" last night. Can't wait to get home and turn them "off". Also, with the failure conditions "on" if you go off the course or tap another rider in a race or challenge up get a 10 second penalty! (Just like the 5 second penalty in GT4 only 10 seconds seems like a very, very long time)

1st lap around Suzuka I found a new chicane (from GT4) the hard way. :dunce:
I still caught the other bike in a 3 lap race and I was stuck against the hay bails trying to back up while in penalty mode so for that paticular incident, it was well more than a regular 10 second penalty.

Put simply, Failure Conditions (Harder Rules in the JPN version) are licence test conditions, and hence, cutting and crashes will stop the lap from being counted (penalty incurred for race events.) Further, like in the licence tests and challenges, wheelies and stoppies are disabled in order to focus on swift, consistent lapery (it’s all too easy to accidentally shift the rider’s weight when cornering with the analogue stick.)
It’s a wonderful tool for competitive time trials, as it goes some way to ensuring clean laps and a level playing field, though you'll have more fun without it when making your way through the game.

is this available in the US game??? because i bought the game and have been able to do wheelies and stoppies without a problem at all.

May I ask a newbie question? I am trying to shift weight back and forth with left analog, but noticed I can only turn with left analog. What am I missing? I cannot stoppie or wheelie.

Depends on the bike that you’re using. Make sure that failure conditions are switched to off- then try it out with something like the ZX-10R. (Avoid fireblades, as they don’t wheelie readily in the JPN version)

Welcome to GTP btw. If you require further assistance, feel free to shoot me a PM.

Yes, it's in the options menu from the main screen.

Thanks Samberto, I had failures turned on. When I switched it off, then I can wheelie almost any bike.
