Harsh much?Whats your problem are you that lazy? Just change gear to match the corner no big deal. You wouldn't like to play F1 games since gear change is very fast up and down.
In most modern engines, for racing related purposes, 6 is enough.
Only if you have a nanny-tranny will more usually help.
I've found generally, cars such as the 458, with 7 gears, have a 2nd gear that's too short to use in many corners, and where that's the case, 3rd is to long to often.
One can also notice cars using the old T56 are essentially 5-speeds, with a highway gear. (Corvettes, Vipers, Aston Martins, at least one Mustang)
Typically cars with a power band so poor that they need more can't go fast enough to really need more, such as Civic's, etc.
Anyway the prime factors (for racing) are power band and top speed, the shorter the power band, or the higher the top speed achievable, the more gears are "needed".
Personally I say learn how to make a better power band, but I digress.
