As on our profile pages. I have 0, for instance. I am referral free. I am unrefereed.

I feel naked somehow. What am I missing?

While creating an account for GTP there is a section that says which user has "referred" you to GTP, if any at all. If a member puts "Venari" in as the referrer then you will get 1 referral, and so on.

I've mysteriously ended up with one...

I have two, both of them are my friends, and both of them never used their accounts. :(

EDIT: Waitasec.... 3? :odd:

I know on some boards it is possible to see who was referred by whom, is that possible on GTP? I thought at one time it was but I could be mistaken.

I have four. I can only account for two. But it does seem pointless.

Yeah, I really wondered this for a long time as well but was too afraid to ask. But it can't be just people typing your name on a post is it? Back when I had my old username, many people called me mnm_bmx and my referrals count was still 0! Now that I change my name, nobody called me by my full username anymore..... :guilty:

Or is it what G.T said? How do you get "referred" by other user and how can I refer to members anyhow?

It's exactly as G.T said... a referral is someone you have brought to the site... check out Solid Lifters' profile  You don't get anything for it, though, except for a bit of kudos :sly: You can't refer someone, or be referred by existing members...

I know who atleast one of my referrals was - I banned someone and they reregistered with a new account. When I looked at the new account in the moderation page, he had listed me as their referrer

Why do people who sign up type in "nobody" and "noone" etc into the refferal box? Look up members with that type of name and they'll have quite a few refferals

Alex. asked me to join here, first thing he said was say it was me, (CCX at the time I think) in the box. Do referrals count to anything at all or are they just there as a fact of how many people the person has told about the site?

It would be the latter, as stated. It works for respect from fellow GTP'ers, though.

It also seperates (for the most part, there are some well-known exceptions) the long-term members from the quick posters. This is why I am not a real member in a sense.

"Last Activity: Jan 01 1970 7:00 AM" Wow… GTP has existed even before the internet was invented (for public).

I currently have 2 Referrals... and I have absolutely no idea who they are :odd:

Well maybe those members weren't active after the new GTP, and some glitch makes their last online reset back in time (probably a vB glitch).... (or just ask Jordan :p)
As for Solid Lifters' referrals.......... OMG!!!!!!

Woah, now it's: "Last Activity: Dec 31 1969 7:00 PM

"your mom" is in a time warp! (Not aimed at anyone or their mother, I mean the user).

You can actually give out URL's with your user id in them to automatically be set as the new member's referrer. You can get this URL and learn more about the referral system here.

January 1, 1970 is the Unix epoch. I assume it is shown as the user's last activity date if they have not logged into their account since I converted the forums to vBulletin from Ikonboard many years ago. Since Ikonboard did not store that type of information about users, it would make sense for vBulletin to use that date as the default.

Now it says December 1969! :odd::boggled::confused::nervous:

Time's going backwards!! :scared:

After I moved to LA, the school teachers would always say 'do you want a referral?' and I was like 'uh.. maybe when I apply for college...?' because I thought it was some college recommendation-related thing.

Then I'd get sent to the office. :irked:

That, and I swear my Spanish teacher hates me. My History teacher loves me, though, cause I'm Irish. :sly:

. Obviously that's for the people who put "none" in the space that asks who referred them to GTP. Of over 100 000 members (and growing :D) only just under 200 people actually put an answer in that space saying none.

I have 0 next to my name, but I have had people tell me they joined GTP just for my Tuning Garage, and their first posts were coincidentally in my Tuning Garage. Makes me so proud.:O That I'm actually helping GTP in more ways than one by tuning these cars.

Strange, too! A mysterious identity among us... but then, so are a lot of people.

I could have had a referral, but the member backed out at the last minute.

How does one back out of getting a membership and referring you?
If I knew anybody that played GT4 and were my friends I'd tell them to put me as there referrer. Sadly I know no one of the sort...
