What are the Skyline GTR touring cars (R32-R34 GT5 DLC) based/inspired from?

This has been on my mind for a little while. I've been wanting to know some more about the three Skyline GTR touring cars; they were DLC in GT5. What the red and black paint comes from and the overall designs. I think the R32 one is some sort of Silhouette model.

Don't think the TC cars where inspired on real race cars.. I think they where some sort of "LM cars" seen in previous GT.. pure imagination..

I think they're the new equivalent of the "race modified" versions we used to have in Gran Turismo before GT5. Like strela said, they're not really based on any real cars. As for how they they match-up to real life specs, I'd say they're similar to GT3. They're not limited to a certain displacement like WTCC, and they have relatively stock-shaped bodies (unlike Super GT), so GT3 or a non German version of DTM maybe. That's assuming they're even "tuned" to any modern specification. Like you said, the R32 could be like the old Japanese Silhouette series. Who knows...

EDIT: Does it say anything in the car's description?

The R32 is based on this Calsonic racer:

The R33 is based on the Nismo GT-R LM, which was in the first Gran Turismo game:

The R34 is just a Super Taikyu/Nurburgring 24 Hours (remember that Falken GT-R car?) spec car. ;)

I can do nothing but agree with your R32 and R33 suggestions @tankuroded, pretty much what I had in mind too. Not sure about the R34, though I'd like to believe it's based on a real car as well. Just like almost every other TC/RC/New generation LM Race Car :)

What you are referring to is the PD created version of the base car with aero modifications added to it and a "custom" paint job. I don't think they are based on any real cars unlike the LM cars (side note, which are only 2wd).

These are NOT GT5 RM cars! RM was something you had to do in the auto shop.
http://www.mygranturismo.net/carlist.php?rm=y This is the list of RM cars.

For all intents and purposes, they're the same. The descriptions are just like those of RMs, when you did a one-make with them, each car was a random color, just like RMs. They were probably given the TC designation because PD wanted them to be visible in the dealerships.

RM or TC.. does that really matter when they're basically the same thing?

And I'd just like to add, for the sake of correctness, this is a Group N Impreza. And this is the actual '06-'07 Subaru Impreza WRC car.

With that in mind, the Impreza Rally Car '05 is obviously based on the '06-'07 WRC Impreza. The Lancer Evo X is likely a what-would-a-wrc-version-look-like, similar to the CZ-3 Rally Car.

Also made another interesting discovery regarding fictive racing cars being based on real cars. Look at the number indicator thingy on the FTO and Impreza Super Touring Cars. They're orange (edit: I mean the top part of it). On the Impreza it even quite clearly spells "Autobacs" (edit: does so on both, just checked) and the background is yellow. Could that hint to them (or at least the Impreza) being based on a JGTC car?

The RX7 LM is inspired by a car that raced in IMSA GTP against the Nissan 300ZX in the '90's.
The Nissan 350 LM's livery is inspired by the 300ZX's.
