What car is this?

Anyway, I spotted this car and can't identify it. It has a strange hood ornament. Does anyone know what brand this is? Or year/country of manufacture?

Amazing spot!!! It is, as ND4SPD has said, a rarer-than-the-pope's-poop Avions Voisin C25 Aerodyne. It's one of about 30 or 40 Voisins left in the world with an Aerodyne body, and it may have been the one that recently participated in the 2012 Villa D'Este concours d'elegance, it has the same paint pattern and the small, round windows in the top:

If so ,it's one of only a handfull of Voisins ever made powered by a V12 engine. You just saw what is very probably the rarest spot in all the history of GTPlanet, and that is saying a freaking lot. Amazing sight. How come you didn't run towards it like a maniac? I would have been there at least an hour.

It's definitely that car, it looks the same and has the same number plate. The next time I see it I'll go a bit closer.

You just don't seem to grasp what you jsut saw. This car is Pebble-Beach-winning material, bud. The Villa D'este concours hand-picks less than 70 cars to participate and this is one of them.

That a car like this goes out into the streets is an event in itself, I don't really think you'll be seeing this roaming the streets again any soon, but hell, I sure hope I'm wrong and you can provide with some pics of the car. I'd about faint if I saw a Voisin in the streets.

EDIT: Actually it just seems a little bit too obscure to be a replica, in which case, wow!

By the way this thread doubles as a "what car is this" thread and turns up some awesome spots, should you see anything else even remotely this exotic.

Couldn't find anything. I could only find info on a C20 which sold for 2750000$ on auction! So I'd say it's probably worth a lot. Fantastic spot! Your neighbour must be very wealthy.

As for how much one costs, I'd say depending on engine and body type, from 250k as someone pointed, all the way up to 700k, maybe. These cars are freaking rare and it takes a very weird kind of car guy to like them, they are not for ev eryone, their lines are controversial, their story is obscure and... well, google a pic of a Voisin interior to see what I'm talking about.

You ARE wrong. There is no way you can replicate those proportions on a VW chassis; 'sides, the kit cars you put on VW chassis often depict MGs, not Voisins. Hell, few people would know what they are replicating, so I wouldn't see the point.

Agreed, that thing is long, you couldn't replicate it on a VW chassis. Cars of that era are generally only copyable from scratch.

Well, I can't be 100 % sure, but he came back a few days after the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este ended and put the car in his garage. He also has some other old cars in there. And I doubt Villa d’Este would allow replicas to enter, except if they were very rare replicas, but I'm no expert.
