What cars can be used in the GT5 single model online racing?

I don't understand the question.
All cars listed under the 'Recommended' Tab, are GT5 cars, not personally owned cars. The list is visible for everyone, not just the host. They can even be used outside of 'Spec Races' which you call Single Model.
 
Sorry - I'll try and explain it a bit better. The original Stackexchange question was written a long time ago.

When I setup an online race one of the options under the "Regulations" menu is "Select from Garage".

I am then presented with a list of cars to choose from - this appears to be a standard list which is set by the game, and has nothing to do with my personal garage (as you said).

So is the list of available cars that the "Regulations" > "Select from Garage" option brings up a standard preset list that is set by the game cannot be edited or altered in any way?

And is the list of available cars for the "Regulations" > "Select from Garage" option documented somewhere online?
 
The only thing you can do to these cars is change tires & aids settings. They can be a lot of fun but some are geared so badly that you hit the rev limiter on long straightaways.
 
The cars you can "select from garage" are the "recommended" cars. That's it. The list is there for everyone to see, as Adrenaline said. The confusion is just that the lists are named differently. They are both the same list.
