Anybody remember "Kimba the white lion"?
How about the old claymation/puppet series "The Thunderbirds"?
Some of my old faves.
Great topic Milefile.
Gil, man, with every post you make, the more I want to meet you. Damn straight I remember Kimba the White Lion. I grew up on:
Action shows
Kimba
Tobor the 8 Man
Ultraman (live action)
Johnny Quest
Clutch Cargo - anybody remember? It was mostly animated, but they filmed the voice actors' mouths as they read the lines, then animated the faces around them - wierd)
Thunderbirds
Captain Scarlet
Speed Racer
Star Blazers (a little later)
Comedy cartoons
Rocky & Bullwinkle
American Heroes (Diaperman, Tornadoman, Strong Man, and Rope Man)
Bugs Bunny, Roadrunner, Daffy and the rest of the Warner Bros gang
Pink Panther/Aardvark
I absolutely
hated Tom & Jerry (still do in fact) because the mouse would always get the cat in trouble for no reason. The cat would be told to be quiet, so the mouse would run around with cymbals breaking all the china and vases. Then the mouse would disappear and the black housekeeper would come in and whop the daylights out of the cat with a broom. I don't care about the violence at all, but I think it's a crappy message to send: punishment is arbitrary, and you're going to get smacked for it even though you were trying to catch the vase, not break it. The sneak/bully mouse, on the other hand, goes totally unpunished because he lies and says the cat did it.
Great moral to that story. Really constructive.
[edit] Yeah, I have to put a vote in for Tex Avery as well. He was an amazing guy and I love all the fairy tale spoofs, and the ones about what happens in the store at night when all the people are gone; stuff like that.
And Gil sews up the nomination - The Banana Splits were absolutely
the best! They always showed
Lancelot Link - Secret Chimp episodes during the Banana Splits, and the Sour Grapes gang were hotties! [/edit]
