What changes would you make to the Livery Editor?

Title is fairly self-explanatory.

I'd add a few things. Some technical, some are simply decals.

I'll start simple. First up would be manufacturer decals. Not just simple ones like the Jaguar logo from Jaguar but the other variants as well like the one on the iPace eTrophy which would look pretty awesome on any car.

I'll use my next suggestion on the iPace eTrophy as well, I'd like to see the driver name replicated on the window as well with variants for text types of course. See where A.Driver is, I'd like to see that on cars and maybe the ability to use our real name too.

As for text, we just have the ability to have one text type and we have to place one letter at a time. For example, the #JAGUARELECTRIFIES would be far easier to create as a single line of text with font types as well than adding every single letter one at a time.

As another aspect to the Livery Editor I'd like to see is the ability to use the coordinates to set the position of a decal. Sure, we can keep the current system to allow us to place it in the area we'd like it but the ability to fine tune using the numerical values would be incredibly useful. The same can be done for Rotation, Skew and Size.

Feel free to state your changes below.

With you on the driver name, on a lot of the cars I think it looks a bit crappy. Would be nice to be able to place it and change it.

Beyond that:
  • Colours selectable by HEX or RGB
  • Ability to invert the colours or change the colour on text logos i.e. you have a red car and want Pirelli so can change the Pirelli text to yellow etc.
  • Ability to add text as a word instead of individual letters
  • Logo grouping
  • Being able to punch through. Like on my Merc DTM Sonax livery, I've had to use red text on the Sonax logo on the side, it would be much better to be able to use it as a cut out and thus show the car colour underneath (unless colour change was enabled which would then do it).
  • Logos to be allowed in Metallic, which would allow make the above easier in conjunction with colour changes.
  • Be able to move the pre configured number squares around, although we will be able to add these with an svg it would be nice to just add them and move, or at least be able to choose which ones display. On some cars a number on the bonnet really limits what you can do with the bonnet livery.

You guys said it all, but I'll elaborate why I want it:

Layer grouping
because it would make it easier to group the paint scheme stripes and certain in-game made decals to look cleaner and less time scrolling through the layers to check for errors.

Layers only showing for the side you work on
because it's a pain scrolling through layers from left AND right side at the same time. Left side layers should only show when working on the left side.

Coordinates to make it easier to know where to place the next decal next to the existing one(like letters etc.)

Option to type words instead of going through one letter at a time.

Option to duplicate a layer and then change decal type like you can in Forza. If the point above doesn't make it, this one is important. Instead of scaling down and rotating EVERY SINGLE LETTER you place, it would be nice to duplicate a letter and then change it to the next letter and just re-position it.

Numeric value with two decimals for scaling, rotation and skewing. Since you can position stuff beyond the normal degrees, you need fine tuning. (Like a scaled size of 5,15 instead of just 5,1. Makes all the sense in the world. Sometimes 5,1 is too small and 5,2 is too big)

Selective mirroring because sometimes you want to mirror something that either won't or does. Sometimes you want it mirrored, sometimes you don't. The Gran Turismo logos for example.. Impossible to make a "chrome line car" or "stealth car" like design without mirroring of the GT logo.

Fine tuning controls like in NFS2015. Sometimes you deal with an intricate piece and want to position juuuust right. Would be nice to have a button to push / hold down to slow down movement so you can place the piece right where you need it, or scale it to the perfect size, or simply being able to rotate it with ease.

Separate painting of the wheels because some liveries would look excellent with the front and rear wheels painted in different colors.

I'm sure there's more, but that's what I want for now.

Opacity scaling for each layer

Bold/Italicized/Underline options for Font

Color Picker

National Flags added in their own folder

Rotate layers by increments of .5 degrees

Quick rotate layers 90 degrees left/right option

Draw tool with brush types

Erase tool with brush types

Line drawing tool with checkpoints

Care to elaborate on that. I was able to do it on decals unless I'm missing something.
I mean duplicating them and flipped the layer correctly on reverse side, which is useful for letter decals, but maybe it's much easier by importing SVG vector

Well most what I would want added or changed has been suggested. But there's still a few more things I'd like.

1 - Not have the camera reset its position and zoom after every instance you add a new shape after finishing a decal layer while zoomed in. That got annoying real quick.

2 - Most of all, I really want to be able to add specific finishes to decal layers, not just a universal setting for the whole livery.

3 - Ability to add textures to shapes. If they had a library of some textures like Carbon fibre and meshes.

4 - Be able to extend shapes onto windows, just basically be able to add stuff to windows would be nice.

5 - Shape merging, reducing the layer count by not just grouping but flattening/merging shapes at least of the same finish type.

6 - After merging or forming new shapes being able to save them as custom library items.

7 - Masking. Some type of ability to mask layers with other shapes.

8 - Save custom colours you pick into swatch pallets so that you can load the pallet of colours and reuse them easliy when making new liveries.

9 - Further to point 3, Customisable texture properties like colour and finish options and the ability to save them into custom texture pallets.

10 - Caliper colour editing. (Could do it in previous GT's, surprised we can't now.)

That is all for now as well as what everyone else has said. It's not too much to ask is it? :sly:

In addition to whats been said. Id like the ability to have zeros at the front of car numbers e.g. 007.
Also quick question - I saw on YT, people changing car numbers without the dialog box appearing! How is that done??

Custom number plate maybe?

You literally can already do that. I did it multiple times in the demo.

Making use of the D-pad would be nice. Could do a lot of things with it like an undo shortcut, hiding the UI, precision/fine tuning controls, etc

Grouping of layers, that way I might bother to make text for the paint :(

Ability to save groups for future use would be handy too!

As a super casual editing amateur, I only want a couple things and I'm baffled how they didn't include some. Most have already been mentioned but:
  • Layer Grouping/Merging - How did they not do this? It's like no one at Polyphony actually used the editor for 5 mins themselves lol
  • Color Picker (Previously Selected) - Why is this at the bottom of the color palette?! Omg *rip hair out* This should be at the top or let me hit the up arrow to wrap the cursor around to the bottom or something
  • Stamping - Sometimes I just want to quickly drop some basic shapes
  • Separate Front/Rear/Left/Right/Roof from "Body"
  • Separate In-Game Logo/Graphic Designer - To create your own item and save it to the Personal Decals folder.
  • More Logos - Maybe this is coming via DLC or Mileage Points but it's weird that something like Motul just has one variation of the logo. Also, no manufacturer logos?
  • Camera Memory - Toggle-able option I suppose. If I move the camera to focus on the front right fender.. leave it there. Don't reset it.

- Ability to download these masterpieces and apply them to our cars

Update: It seems you need to add to your online favorites, then go to garage to apply. Would've been nice if Kaz/PD communicated this better. Commentators on some liveries in the game seem to be oblivious of this feature as was I.
