I used to work for my parents @ their print shop over the summer. I was the temporary replacement for the press operator who was on about 1.5 months of leave.
took me about 2-3 weeks of pain and frustration to get the damn machine working right for me despite the month of training i had. Once it got running, it would run just fine. One of my first print jobs was to do about 30000 flyers for a best western in the neighborhood. The paper was a bit different from what i was used to working with (thickness & gloss) so i had to configure the press to work with it. That took all of a day and me trying to punch the crap out of a 200lbs slab of forged steel (the print head on the press). That hurt like ****ing hell. Next day, i had the press set up to continue the job. About 15-20 papercuts on my hands later, I was ready to clean the press up....Certain parts can't be cleaned using gloves because of how much they rotate so i had to handle the cleaning solvents with my bare hands. I was used to that but DDAAAAAAAMMMN it hurt when that **** got spilt onto my hands.
i got annoyed at the damn press, tried to fix one of the settings and somehow went home looking like smurfs from all the blue ink. (i think i overadjusted)...the ink was on me for about 1.5 weeks
- Nothing more fun than going around in public with friends and you're the only blue person in the group
I went through all that because my bro said i couldn't do the job right (in the end i did just fine). But damn i miss running that press. I can see why the guy that normally runs it treats it like his baby now.
That being said, i NEVER in my life want to see Pantone 185 Red or Reflex Blue again
