PS = Pferdestarke, which is German for "Horse Strong" literally translated.

For the record 1PS = 0.9863201 horsepower.

Thanks Smallhorses - I read it somewhere but couldn't remember it :ouch:

So 1PS is pretty close to 1HP.

Thank you all for the replies. I think I'll sleep now I will come back on earliest I can tomorrow. (I think that's how you spell it) I will keep in mind of all your tips, and will try to use it. For I am addicted to this thing. (I think) Well see you all soon! Also the Poll still continues, until I feel like stopping. Thank you!

Oh! I'm sorry to bother you guys but how do I become not new member? You do not have to answer me if you think I'm not worthy, or better off staying as a New Member. Bye for real now.

You will have to stick around, post and contribute to the forums. You will gradually go up in user title until you reach Diamond member or when 3 months pass after your registration (if I'm correct) - then you can change your user title.

You post a lot. But dont postwhore. Once you hit 50 you will be like me. But please make them all good posts, not stupid ones.

It's like :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead: trying to get it through to you, that if your posting doesn't improve you will not be tolerated.
I've been sort of following all the commotion caused by WhackAzn's threads & posts and almost feel (or maybe just hope) that he is just kidding around just to see what kind of reactions he'll get from them.

After all, in one of his posts he made it clear what he wants:
i just wanted replies real bad my firsttime doin this....lol it was joke

He also got caught in a lie about not knowing about the EDIT feature, as he was making edits to his posts over an hour before claiming to not even know about it.

Or maybe its just wishful thinking on my part, hoping above all else that he does not represent the average 13-14 yr old American... If so, I may have to move my family to another country, especially once that generation takes over. :)

BTW:

I am 14 on March 10, 2007 (I think or what year is it people?)
It is the year 2006 *sigh*...

And in Dutch :) it's PK - Paardenkracht. Which is litteraly Horsepower. This makes me wonder. Does 1 PK equal 1 PS or 1 HP (probably the PS, since were neighbours).

edit: wait a sec. I just searched for the engine power of the Bugatti Veyron in HP, PS and PK and they all say that the car has 1001 PS/PK/HP. SHs info suggests that if the car has 1001 PS it would have about 987 HP or, the other way around, if the 1001 HP is correct this would equal about 1015 PS. Am I missing something?

GT4_Rule
It's not that I'm sympathizing with him, but it's that I see lots of bossy attitude from senior members toward new members and I don't like that - this is supposed to be a warm and a friendly forum.

Nobody with half a brain discriminates against new users. If someone acts like an idiot, they should expect to be treated like one.

1PK = 1PS = 1CV = The "metric horsepower".

1hp = 550lbft/s (the amount of power required to lift 550lb through 1 vertical foot in 1 second)
1PS = 75kgm/s (the amount of power required to lift 75kg through 1 vertical metre in 1 second)

Since 1lb = 0.4537kg and 1 foot = 0.3048 metres, 550lbft/s = 76.06kgm/s. So the PS/PK/CV (Cheval Vapeur) is a slightly smaller unit than the hp.

You aren't, but everyone else is. Manufacturers tend to quote in PS and not enough people know the difference when they convert it into horsepower, just assuming that since Pferdenstarke is German for "Horsepower", PS is some funky "Euro" way of saying hp. So they take 1PS/CV/PK = 1hp.

Iteresting.
So, how is this done in GT4? Is 1'GT4hp' equal to 1PS?

GT4's default is PS. It will change units quite happily - to kW, CV (not so much changing of units there) or hp - but does a shocking job on changing torque units from kgm/s.

A) He wasnt lying about edit, he thought it was like spelling and grammar autocorrector.
B) I dont think hes American
C) I dunno, the average teenager's pretty retarded. (and I know you're all going to tell me 'speak for yourself!')

RWD with rear engine.

I think RWD is very well balanced, the tire wear is MUCH better than FWD and steering with RWD is best.
RWD is balanced because the front wheels have to do the steering and the rear tires have to accelerate + carrying motor weight, that results in a balanced car feeling and great handling. Guess ehy group c and other high powered race cars are RWD? 💡

DLRgian
FR, MR and AWD :). I am not too fond of FWD. It just never really tickled my driving style.

I prefer AWD. Much better for stickier situations and easy to drive with no aids, compared to a RWD.

Thank you sakiale for clearing that up I really thought it was like an auto corrector...I already knew about what you were talkin about editing, because I saw someone type

blah blaah blah

Edit:blah blah

Oh! And the new Poll results are,

MR:2
RWD:5
FWD:0
AWD:3

NSX:1
Wow no one seems to prefer or like FWD....Thanks Sakiale for posting your favorite car, NSX.

I like 4WD.

Also, NSX should go into the MR section. And you might want to add RR, like Porsches. Rear engine Rear Wheel drive.

Just a tip, you don't have any gt games, and you've only played them once or twice. I suggest posting this stuff, which I assume is about real cars, in the "Cars in General" section. You will probobly get more replies of the type you are looking for.

I have to ask: If you don't play GT4, and you don't know much about cars, why are you posting a lot of 'information' about these topics here?
  • You're just reposting material from other sites, without enough knowledge to judge if it's good or not.
  • A lot of it is information that we already know, and better than whatever the source is, so there's no point in repeating it here.
Bad information is bad - that's my mantra. If you don't know something, don't act like you do. That does nothing except make enemies out of people who do know it, because they have to follow you around and correct all of your bad information.

If you're interested in learning about GT4 in specific and cars in general, by all means, feel free to hang out hear and learn all that you can. That's what internet forums are for.

But I, for example, would never go to a skiing forum and try to start a lot of threads discussing skiing, or repost some inaccurate and simplistic skiing articles I found. I know nothing about skiing, so I'd be hopeless at trying to generate worthwhile discussions that way.

Instead I would hang around, research all the topics already discussed, and ask occasional, intelligent questions after I had read through and tried to understand what was already there.

See?

I'm sorry but I just wanted place where I could ask people about cars and such, and by the way I do enjoy playing the game GT4. I am even considering to buy it if I ever get a chance to. Yes, my mom will disagree, but hey I have a chance. I also believe GT4 is the ultimate racing simulation, so it is the closest thing to actually driving a car.

Asking questions is one thing, though we expect you to excercise the search function and see if you can find the answer yourself first. Nobody just knows everything about cars - everybody started somewhere, including all of us older hands. That's not the problem at all, as long as you're making effort to find answers yourself and not just expecting us to bottle-feed you.

The problem is posting wrong or poor-quality information here, particularly since you don't have enough experience yet to sort that from the good stuff. There is a thriving drifter's forum here, with experienced drifters in both GT4 and real life. So reposting some mediocre article that you copied from Wikipedia here, as if it were your facts, is not constructive.

Instead of trying to impress us with information you don't really understand, better way to handle it would have been to make a post in the Drifters' Forum, saying something like this:
a new guy
Hey, I'm just starting out learning about this drifting stuff, and cars in general. I found this Wiki article (link here) - anybody read it yet? Does this guy seem to know what he's talking about? This stuff is cool and I want to learn all I can about it.
And then you wait for replies - a few hours; maybe even a few days. Somebody will come across a post like that, and I guarantee you'll get a much better reception than the one you've gotten so far.

Is this making sense?

The Veyron officially has 987bhp, or 1001ps, but the reality of it is that it has more than that. Your calculation is correct, 1001ps is 987bhp, so the site is wrong, well not in a way because it has over 1001bhpm but 1001ps isn't 1001bhp.

Whakazn, being a new member is nothing to make you feel unworthy, there's som enew members who come here and make a good impression like Luca has, he's been here since the start of July and still has only made 44 posts. Now I'm not saying making a lot of posts is bad, but it's wha you say in thoes posts that matters.

The tag under your name is'nt important in the slightest, it's what your reputation is that matters. Good spelling and grammar go a long way to getting a good reputation, but also not making new threads every 5 mins after joining does as well. Take your time, that's all I'm going to say, have a look around the site before you start posting everything on your mind and take your time. You don't need to rush and annoy people because the answer is just a bit further down the page ect.

Then check out the automotive section, your in the GT4 secion at the moment bud.

New Poll results are

MR:2
RWD:5
FWD:1
AWD:4
RR:0

NSX:1

Perfect Balance, I just put your 4WD vote to AWD since they are similar...If you dont like that, I'll just make a 4WD section for you....

RR all the way, brillint fun to drive, and the RUF RGT is RR and I love that car, it's very good at rallying :)

When released in America Bugatti upped the boost a the smidgenest of smidgens to make it an official 1001 BHP.
Of, and favorite drivetrain? RR. Favorite car with said drivetrain? RUF BTR.

WhackAzn
What do you guys/gals like?

I like gals! :dopey: :D

Oh, you mean drivetrain!!!! :p Well this is tricky, since my favourite of favouritest cars isn't featured (except in NTSC-J version) in GT4, the original, and still the best, Mini Cooper which is FWD. If it was in, that'd be my vote for sure! :( The Bini (BMW Mini Cooper) doesn't count, and I've as yet refused to drive one except for that annoying licence test where they make you use the Mini One. :yuck:

So instead I'll have to go with FR since I own an MX-5 Miata, but I thoroughly enjoy the MR, and RR layouts in GT4 too. :)
4WD is just a little too predictable and understeery if it's not set correctly to be any fun, although it comes into its own on loose or wet surfaces, where the increased traction is a huge plus point. :indiff:

Why is the NSX in a seperate category? Its a Mid-engine Rear wheel drive car, so it should go into MR.

Another idea would be changing the poll options to MR, RR, FR, FF, AWD. Instead of rwd, and such, since FR, MR, and RR are all RWD.
