Here are the new US nickels. They are supposed to commemorate the Louisiana Purchase.

What the hell? A new 3 sided coin? awsomeness I love coins with dimensions I never use!

I like the first side. The second side is alright, but the third side isn't the greatest...

Tribute to the old Buffalo-Head nickels? (Did you know you can balance a water-filled drinking glass on a Buffalo-Head nickel? And did you know they accidentally made it one year with only three legs?)

Too many questions!

. Seriously, who thought of putting a buffalo on a national coin and show the damn things genitals hanging down like that....I can see it now little kids asking their parents what that piece of flesh is doing hanging under that buffalo.

Yes, in 1937.

The tactics by the US Mint are clearly a conspiracy by the Fed Chairman, Alan Greenspan, to get us to save more money, rather than dump it in the stock market. :)

Ah, it's been a while, but it's okay to be a numismatist again.

These are the new design for 2!! Nickels. The front has Jefferson and the backs have the other two pictures. These are the new buffalo nickels in commemoration of Lewis and Clark.

Awesome, so I guess I'm on the front of that nickel, could have told me earlier.......👍

*My full name is Jefferson hehe:tup:

My full name is Jefferson hehe

That's an unusual surname. Tell me, where does it come from? I assume it's of Native American descent...

I like it much better than the current nickel, I've always liked the old buffalo nickels and it's always nice to see a change in the design of currency.

 Oh sorry about that Famine, I guess I wasn't thinking while I typed, I meant to say my first name is.......Stupid me:dunce:👍

Well...based on the pictures given. I love the fact that only the Americans would have a three-sided nickel. :sly:

As a Manitoban, how could I not like the buffalo.

It isn't three sided. It is two coin designs that will both be in circulation. Both coins have Jefferson on the front and then one coin has the buffalo on the back and the other coin has the ocean picture on the back.

Well, ya. We were all just kidding around. Although it'd be extemely weird to have a 3 sided coin. Try putting those in a coin slot. :odd:

Looks fantastic. Especially for an American coin.

That said, I seriously doubt the U.S. Mint can produce them at quality levels that even come close to the photos from the press release.

Yeah, but that's because they're using Photo Mode.

Actually, if you buy the Uncirculated-Proof sets, and use a high-quality magnifying glass, then the quality is even better than what you see here.

American money has always been a little on the bland side...sometimes they come out with commemorative coin sets (usually quarters) and they're pretty good, but living north of the border I agree that Canadian money is quite a bit better than American money. It's colourful and full of wildlife and it's easy to tell the bills apart. Australia also has similarly beautiful money, though they have this weird plastic see-through window in theirs that's really strange. The new Euros also look pretty good. And that's my "two cents," pun intended of course.

Well... maybe not that good...

But yes, a doublestruck uncirculated proof will look fairly good.
