Sorry if i spelled Boxster wrong, BTW.

Anywho, i think that Porsche is a bit old already. I mean, they need new cars, new designs! The only thing that's come out of their hands is that SUV (forgot the name...), that look like a Boxster in the front! Come on! :odd: :argue:

What do you think? Tell me i'm just living under a rock and they've made new designs for 2002/2003...please....... :melting:

I think that they should stay with the look, but maybe come out with a 4 door sedan, maybe a wagon, a truck. I like the look, but they do need more variation in cars.

Well, i dunno, because their look is old, the cars no longer seem like exotics. That and that everyone that's a rich person drives one. :grumpy: :D

Ummm.... no. They do not need a truck.... A 4 door sedan would be too pricey as a porche....

Why the hell not just make a GT1 into a road car???

Porche is like any other car manufacturer ... they've got some good models, but there are some that just don't fit. Personally I think the Boxster is a lousy Porche. But the recent 911 cars are very impressive. The 968 is pretty darn cool as well.

Porche makes racing cars man! If they start making 4 door sedans and pickup trucks, they're history. It will all be lost money, and right now no one can afford to do that. The SUV they made will probably flop, and that's not a bad thing.

there's nothing wrong with Porsche right now and i think that they know what they're doing ..... they never seem to strike me as being exotic though ..... they seem more civilized almost like a wolf in sheep's clothing ..... with regards to my own money; i would rather buy a Lotus Exige, TVR Tuscan, or Lotus M250 (didn't go into production) but since these cars don't exist in North America, i would definitely go with a Boxster S .... the 911 is over-priced for it's marginal performance advantage and it won't give you that mid-engined feel .......the 911 would shine on a racetrack but let's face it .....most people aren't driving their Porsches at the track ...... they are going around downtown looking for a fancy place to eat dinner and for the occasional blast down the windy backroads, you don't need any better .....anyways, the Boxster looks more subtle, elegant, sophisticated, and classic than it's big brother ......big brother sure lost alot of attention when little Boxster was born

I love Porsche. Have for years. They're unarguably some of the best cars in the world at what they do, and you get what you pay for.

When the 924 and 944 were in production, many called them 'the poor man's Porsche'. Manya re saying the sam about the Boxter (even though it starts over $40,000). But the 924/944 had good points to them, as does the Boxter.

As for Porsche getting old, they're getting mature is all. The styling has stayed the same, but the underpinnings have been imrpoved from year to year - the way it should be. I don't really care too much how a car looks if it's as fast as the current 911 Turbos, and the GT2.

Porsche is a company that does one thing and does it well. I think the new Cayenne is a big mistake, but it didn't cost them too terribly much to develop.

I don't know. I kinda like to think I will be able to buy a car with lower tag than 200000, so I kinda want porshe to stay the same...

Porshe is still up there. No one can look away from them whens comes to being on the track. Its still one of the leading sporst cars.

Although, you asked about the Boxster? In my opinion its a Porshe for all those that can't afford a true Porshe. The cheap mans Porshe. I don't like them.

What Porshe needs to do is focus on one car. The 911 was their flagship car for a long time, and now you barly hear anything about it. I don't if its cause I live in the states and we didn't have them for so long, or if its just Porshe not pushing there product as much as in past years. I predict, Porshe is just waiting for the right time to shock the world if something new. Letting other companies do there thing, sitting back just waiting. Their a company you can't forget about, never take your eye off of. ;)

I like Porsche designs and cars. I know that most of there cars are VERY similar in design, but that's beside the point.

The design of Porsche cars is a good one because it has lasted for so long. I don't think it looks dated at all.

Porsche body style may be basically them same as it has always been but I find them more atractive and sexy then most women (don't want to say all in an attempt to save dignity). I consider Porsche automobiles the leading supercar for under $150k. Everyone knows one when they see one and everyone knows that they are ****ing fast. Even when I was 8, had no knowledge of cars, I can remeber seeing them from time to time and just knowing they were rockets.

And, you just can't deny a company with such a long and sucessful racing heritage. Just count how many LeMans races they've won. Sure, most of the cars are not the same as those on the street, but it obviously makes it's way down to the production models.

I urge anyone who is interested in cars at all to look into the history of Porsche and check out thier progession of models and technology. It's pretty cool stuff. Did you know that Ferdinand Porsche (the founder of the company) also designed the Volkswagen Beetle? And his grandson is Ferdinand Piech, the current CEO of VW.

Deutschland Cars rule, German and Lutheran man! :)

Hate Boxster it needs a bigger engine, so it can kill Josh's S2000 :P. I liked the old 911 RS's, the old Targa's were great, the 930 turbos just plain awesome.

A great game to buy, Need For Speed: Porsche Unleashed, all the Porsches man! The 917k, 550 spyder, 930 turbo and the ever famous 935 whaletail . Also theres the 911 GT1 race and road car :eek:

I think they should design a low-profile sedan of some sort. An awesome family car! Like the Italdesign Cala (it's seats 4, but i guess that is just a start :D ).

There would be nothing wrong with that. I'm not saying they should make a minivan or something.... :)

trust me Zero, a Boxster S would have no problem against an S2000 in day to day driving .....you have to remember that the S2000 is an amazing car ....i mean superb but it's not so useful off the track ....it's virtuously torqueless and the only reason that it achieves a similar 0-60 mph time as a Boxster S (it varies around 5.5 sec) is because the testers drive the piss out of it and drop the clutch at 9000rpm ......now you probably wouldn't do this to your own car unless you plan on buying a new clutch every few months so a better bet is the Boxster S ......it has a way better powerband and you don't have to kill your car to be fast ......at low rpms, my Maxima would come of the line faster than an S2000 ......whenever i see an S2000 take off normally from the lights, you can see and hear that it's struggling ......this car is better suited to the track ......but both cars are amazing and i get all excited whenever i hear either of them

Trust me... i drove a lot of fast cars, due to the fact my father's a broker, and he's a friend of my boss... I've been to track days in the past and drove things that would make you guys go nuts... The S2000 is way better than the Boxster on a track, simply because the Boxster is heavier... 10hp isn't much... and you can't diss a 9200rpm, 240hp, 2 liter engine...

as for the 911... i drove a 911 Turbo (993) around Mont-Tremblant raceway... and i must tell you it's the best thing i've ever driven... and i've driven M3'S, Vipers, Vettes and NSXs...

On a side note, i can't wait for this summer, my boss bought a 360 Modena Spyder... If i beg him just enough, i'll get a ride...

i think my first car will probably be a 944 or a BMW 325 ......but the 944's are great cars .....they were hailed by critics as the best handling car in that era (the 80's) ....it is also a great time to pick one up as most people have forgotten how good they are but there were enough made to be a selective buyer

Took this today. I think I'm going to forget about buying a house, and just buy a Porsche and live in it. :D

The S2000 and Boxster S have been often compared since they were released. basically, it breaks down that they're both very good cars for very different reaons. Take them to the track and they will hit very very close times, really depending on the track.

As everyone knows, the S2000 needs to rev to very high numbers before it really screams. The Boxter S develops gobs of torque. So, they make up their speed in different sections of track. Also, the S2000 has better handling for the average driver, but the Boxster rewards driving at the limit much more for a skilled driver. Again it's pretty much a draw.

The two cars are very differnet but are both rewarding. I like the Boxter S better for it's styling, but that's all opinion.

yeah PunkRock ......if you read my post carefully you'd see that i wasn't talking about the track ........i was reffering to everyday driving ........i'm assuming you're referring to the Boxster S because you mentioned "10hp isn't much" ......perhaps the Boxster you drove was the base version or perhaps your driving skills aren't up to par in the mid-engined department but lets do a little comparison

S2000 Boxster S

0-60 mph 5.8 s 5.8 s
1/4 mile 14.2 s 14.2 s
curb weight 2756 lbs 2855 lbs
top speed 150 mph 161 mph
hp 240 @ 8200 rpm 250 @ 6250 rpm
torque 151 @ 7500 rpm 225 @ 4500 rpm

also the Boxster S gets 85% of it's max torque at a nice 2000 rpm
......the Boxster develops more torque at 2000 rpm than the S2000 ever develops at any rpm .....ouch! .......here is one quote from Motortrend about the S2000: "On one run, we launched and shifted at 5500; the 0-60 time rose to more than 11 seconds." .... and here is another: "it's hard to get this car out of the blocks in a hurry without frying the clutch" .......but you're pretty much dead on the road if your cruising along in your S2000 and a Boxster comes up along side of you ......he's ready to go regardless of his rpm and you're out of your tiny powerband ....both these cars are awesome though ....the S2000 is better suited to track conditions than to the road .....it's engine is sweet but even more sweet is it's structural integrity thanks to F1 engineers ;) ......but there's no doubt about it .......on the road an S2000 isn't much of a threat to a Boxster S .......on the track or a windy back-road, they're pretty much identical regardless of the extra 100 lbs on the Porsche ......don't forget about the agility of a MR ......in racing torque to weight ratio is also a key factor (not just power to weight ratio) So why is the S2000 way better than the Boxster on a track? ....like you said, "10 hp isn't much" and i'm going to reply, "but 74 lb ft is"

i agree with everything you just said :) especially the better handling for the average driver in the S2000 .....the Boxster's secret handling capabilities need to be unlocked by skillful drivers ..... that's pretty much my point: on tracks, they are very close but in everyday driving the Boxster makes the S2000 wimper ......and i like the Boxster styling better as well .....more elegant and sophisticated looking as i have said many times now like a broken record

Well, uh, I liked Porsche's a whole lot more before I started reading this thread...:P

j/k, anyways, like I've said many times in the past, I wouldn't hesitate for a second to trade my car for a Boxster, or any other Porsche...:D

An art teacher of mine allowed me to take her car(new 911, bought by her husband) to lunch one day(after weeks of begging, and she insisted that she have my keys in her possession "just incase"), and I fell in love(with the car). Needless to say I had a blast, and was a little late returning from lunch...:P I also drove a '99 Boxster back in the day with my Father, and it too was awesome. They shift so smoothly it's almost unbeleivable IMO.

oh your car is awesome Josh .....i wouldn't complain about either cars but there are advantages and disadvantages to both ....the Porsche cost is a disadvantage .....i love the sound of both cars though ......i'd just rather have a Boxster because if i had your car i would be driving the **** out of it ......9000 rpm .....i think i'd rather rent your car and buy a Boxster just because i wouldn't have to drive the crap out of it to be fast ........oh, don't let anybody ever borrow your car ......i doubt they will be very nice to it ;)
