What are your thoughts on the latest idea of PD's in the seasonals?

Do you think this is a good idea or another poor installment into seasonals?

Are PD trying to find a way around hybrids by using this solution?

Sorry if this is a duplicate thread. I searched but found no others on this specific topic, but if you mods seem this thread unnecessary then feel free to close this. :)

Another poor idea, it's basically a seasonal "race" condensed down into 90 seconds. A real passing challenge would be over a couple of laps and the passing would actually be a challenge on just one car, not just flying past six cars as the AI brake hopelessly early and heavy. But GT5 AI is not up to that of course.

Plus it's not actually new, this exact same setup was used in a few license tests and the academy tests IIRC.

Yes, not their latest idea - same style of events are in license tests.

I mean their latest idea in the seasonals. I'm totally aware that this is already present in license tests. Sorry for the poor wording on my part.

Yeah, I see what you meant.

I think it could be one of two reasons (or both of them) 1) Just an extra special event used to sell more of their individual car DLC's (people won't be buying the GT-R now, I can tell you) or 2) A way of adding to the seasonals that will not allow hacked/hybrid cars to participate. But either way it's extra content - and can only be a positive thing - two TT's, two DT's and three special events classed as TT's but with overtaking involved. In the License tests you had to just come first, this is slightly different, and no doubt connected to the influx of hybrids - which I think has become an epidemic and they may feel it's too late to stop them, so let's try and sell more DLC.

So it could just be a simple answer - a marketing tool, the game is now 2 years old and people have resorted to hacking their save files in order to get more enjoyment out of the game, like doing things that can be done on Forza 4 without hacking.

But hey, it's a little change of pace wouldn't you think? Sure it may not be the best but damn, they could have stopped updating a LONG time ago!

Was bummed about receiving a Nissan Micra from my 1000 ticket...those engine restore tickets will come in handy though! To the LMP cars I go!

I've not tried them yet, but sounds just like the stupid licence tests that encourage late lunge overtakes. Yawn...

👎

I've a shocking idea for the seasonal's. How about PD actually create some races, with qualifying and standing grid starts so that you can actually race rather than 'overtake the AI in xx seconds' or 'time trials with rolling roadblocks'.

I know its not radical but you know it might just catch on.

Could not have put it better myself.

It's not a "new" seasonal at all (though by that definition, all of the 'new seasonals' aren't really new but I digress) It's just the same formula trimmed down into smaller bite sized pieces.

I did it, because money. Not because I enjoyed it or found it a unique challenge.

However, it's nice they're making some effort to change it up.. even if it's a rather weak attempt.

I think you've had enough; it's time to put down the drink.. you're getting those crazy ideas again and we can't afford to bribe the authority a second time!

And if they added some championship points we might end up with a 'Real Racing Simulator', now that would be something!

I've only done the Tokyo BRZ Event so far. For some reason I got addicted to bettering my time and played for an hour. Basically just a little TT with typical AI. I wasn't expecting anything new so it's nice addition.

At this point in GT5's life, I can't see some major AI reprogramming. I might enjoy some longer races but then they would be hard to make competitive for the broad range of skill levels. I'd be great if there were several different AI speeds like in the F1 Series.

Nah.

I'll eat my left shoe if there's an AI overhaul in GT5.
From here on out the best we can hope for is that they try a little harder with what they've got.

Agreed. Sad that even after 2+ years, the potential this game has continues to be wasted. And Kaz says the online team has a difficult time coming up with these. Yeah, right...

It's just funny because 'Overtake challenge' is an oxymoron in this context. They must know that in a real race one driver doesn't overtake 6 competitors in 90 seconds.

He said that? source, if you could?

Pretty much, it's a miniature time attack with moving chicanes. Nothing more.

Can you describe how the various themes, cars, and tracks are chosen for GT5‘s Seasonal Events?

Every time, our Online Operations team at Polyphony Digital has a discussion of what they would like to do next, then they come to me with their ideas. I take their ideas and then we decide what to do from there.

I think the online team has a very difficult job, because within the resources GT5 has they have to come up with something different every time.

Oh, no I wasn't accusing you of being a liar! (Just realised it may have come across like that)

I was just interested in seeing where you got that from, cheers. 👍

Edit: Ahh that's why I didn't remember it. It got overshadowed by the fact he was saying there were a team working on making real engine sounds yet the credits only list one bloke.

I think the irony is these kinds of events are great for seasonals/special events, but since A-Spec, which is supposed to be racing, doesn't truly have racing (or a lot to do in general), it doesn't make much sense.

It just seems like console games are afraid of being simulators. Is it really so scary?

I just think about Forza for whatever reason, perhaps it's because I played an overtaking challenge there first.

Variety is a good idea and adds to the game so cant complain.

Don't worry, you're fine. You asked for the source, so I just decided to post the link.

I know :) I just re-read how I worded it and realised it seemed rather accusatory, that's all.

It's a partial lap A-Spec race...:yuck:

Most of them are pretty fun. I like how there are rankings so I can push myself to go faster. 👍

When I first saw this event I had a feeling they were gonna be rubbish but I tried them anyway before I judged, and they were.

Agreed. I've been enjoying TT's lately. I'm not super fast but it's fun to have that interactive leaderboard Milouse put up.
