Answer: Magnaride!

Leftlanenews.com
Earlier this week, it was reported that Ferrari had turned to bankrupt parts supplier and former GM subsidiary Delphi for components for its new 2007 599 GTB Fiorano. A rather dry piece of news by itself, the story becomes more interesting upon further investigation. According to published reports, the car will use Delphi’s MagneRide suspension, which is used on the Corvette and Cadillac STS. The suspension system enables rapid changes to the damping characteristics of the shocks either from driver or computer input. Oddly, GM doesn’t use MagneRide on its high-performance Z06 Corvette or STS-V Caddy.

Tee-hee, that means GM/Delphi designed something good, eh?

I find this funny, I wonder how long it will take for someone to say that the 599 will handle poorly.

I wonder how long it will take for Detroit fans to gloat about it, even though it's nothing but an electromagnetic shock absorb-- oh, wait.

alot of cars use some form of magnaride technology these days and thats all I know on the subject. I hope the 599 will handle poorly now lol where my coat :dopey:

Very similar sexily edged shapes... oh wait, they're both Tuscan rip-offs in some way. (no, seriously, I am just kidding.)

Didn't the C5 have Magneride? I thought it was optional on the new one?

Ya the C5 had it and there was a dial in the car on the center console that could switch the firmness of it to make the car sportier.

The Magnaride suspension (I belive) dates back to the 1992 Cadillac STS sedan, and was later applied to the C4 Corvette twards the end of it's run. The option became popular on the Corvette slightly after the introduction of the C5, and it has been noted for offering a smooth ride, and when needed, a good enough sport suspension for most drivers.

For the most part, you will find these setups on Corvettes and XLRs, but I belive that they still offer it on the STS, and I belive a new version is being adapted for the GMT900 SUVs and Trucks...

It will handle fine, the Corvette has no problem.

The Magnaride C6 ive ridden and driven went along pretty well. I've never been in a Ferrari or Lamborghni, but from what I have herd, the ride can be pretty crusty. If anything, the Magnaride was a little soft, but otherwise fine. The owner is well into his 50s, so he isnt too concerned with making 1+g corners anytime soon...

yea thats the only ride ive ever gotten in a C6...slow but nice...

id love to be with an agressive driver but i cant find one thats willing...

Get me a C6 to drive and I'll help you out...

So now, Ferrari please give credit to GM and Delphi for developing MagnaRide. Oh, dont you ever say that it was developed by Ferrari!

...They wouldnt ever say it was done by GM/Delphi, just like when you go to the Saturn dealer and ask them about the Honda engine in the VUE. They would never confess to it, even though "MADE IN JAPAN" in stamped right inside the engine bay. I presume Ferrari would do the same thing, or they would say that it was "modified" to match Ferrari's specifications...

Dirty cover-up work, as I call it. Tell the truth to consumers, dammit!

...Now Audi is using the suspension too!

Leftlanenews.com
In April, we reported that the 2007 Ferrari GTB Fiorano featured a suspension system called MagneRide from former GM subsidiary Delphi. It turns out another European automaker also plans to use the system on its latest sports car. The 2007 Audi TT will feature the adjustable suspension technology, Delphi and Audi announced today. MagneRide was first used on the new Corvette C6 and Cadillac STS. The suspension system enables rapid changes to the damping characteristics of the shocks either from driver or computer input. Audi claims the new system will offer “better transient handling and road isolation along with increased driver comfort” compared to the old TT coupe. Drivers will have the ability to select the level of suspension damping with a console-mounted two-position driver preference switch.

lolololololol, looks like we Americans did something the Europeans won't scoff at any longer!

That is exactly what they said in the newest Motor Trend! Ferrari claims to have co-developed it or something and have tuned it specifically for the 599. Well of course you fine tuned it...You can't just slap on Corvette-spec parts and expect it to work how its needed.

I think that Buick was including something about Magnaride in their ads a while ago, before the heated wiper fluid.

The only Buick available with Magnaride is the Lucerne, which share's its mechanical bits and pieces with the Cadillac DTS. Generally speaking, Magnaride is reserved for high-end models, so there arent too many specialty models elsewhere that would be given that suspension over at GM.

...But it just goes to show, Magnaride has been a good idea, and now everyone wants it. It makes me wonder why Ferrari and Audi didn't try out the Ford/Volvo suspension instead, not that it makes a difference of course...

Come on Ferrari...don't lie..."Co-developed" my arse.

Well I sure do hope that European magazines give Americans credit for developing a world-class suspension used in a Ferrari...

I hope no stupid car companies take credit for developing something that comes standard on the male reproductive system.

Leave it to a bored GM engineer to make that kind of discovery, though.

I was just reading in my new C&D about the 599 having...hang on a sec.............magnetorheological shock absorbers. Yeah. Then they wrecked the Fiorano. Just a fender bender, but they still hit the rocks.
