Ahhh, they're all complete driving noobs that can't tell the clutch from the brake.
And, with a good deal of tuning knowledge, I think I could beat em.

Umm, you will likely be humbled once reality sets in. Just saying.

Real cars =/= GT knowledge.

And you'll be hard pressed to beat anything newer than a '99 Mustang GT with a GLI, and even that's stretching it, dealing with the mustang weighing 200 pounds more and having 60 more horsepower.
Do you think it would with a Navy Blue paint job and orange racing stripes (Racing stripes make you go faster, NOT flames, contrary to popular belief) and a big bumper sticker that says "You Are Gator Bait" on the back.
Vanity plate= IMAG8R
Fight flags on all four windows. :)
My ride of choice. :D

OK, maybe that's too far.
I'll wait for after college to do that. :)

Where do you live in Florida? And dear god man, get that Gator crap off there! Rep the U or the Noles, screw the Gators 👎

No way, (University of) ____ (State/Tech/University) has a better sporting team, finer women, parties better, has smarter students, wealthier alumni, and doesn't smell like (University of) _____ (State/Tech/University) does. And will always beat your school at everything, since (University of) _____ (State/Tech/University) is awesome. Go (abbreviation/sporting rally cry)!

At least, I read that fact on a T-shirt before.

Yellow stripes, man. and none of those "gator" references. Though your name underneath the driver's side window, "U.S. NAVY" on the spoiler, and "Blue Angels" under the door would work...

;)

I actually race karts competitively and have been on shifter karts before (even though they don't have a clutch) so I have all the real life knowledge I need.

I actually live in CT, my dad went to UF and I'll most likely go there too.
Let's just say I'm happy they made it past round 1 of the tournament. :)

Hahahaha, mk4 owners seem to be universally missing a few bits and pieces in their head. This thread does not help to correct that.

OK, I just cleared it up with my dad.
He said that he'll be getting the 2008 model with the manual gearbox.
Not sure on the engine size...

The '08 only came with the 200 BHP 2.0T four-cylinder, and had the option of a six-speed manual or a six-speed DSG gearbox. Although I'm more impartial to the quirky delivery of the 1.8T, the 2.0T has a flat power curve that gets the job done, no matter the RPM. Make sure you get the gearbox checked out before buying, Volkswagen is known for having a strange clutch uptake compared to other mainstream brands, and its pretty easy to burn one out quickly, particularly if the vehicle's previous owner had a love for hoonage.

If the car is VW-Certified, you should be in the clear. Just make sure you guys shop around for some better offers, including newer vehicles. The GLI has the magic ability of holding onto resale values due to the die-hard fans out there. To put it simply, $20K goes a lot further than it used to, particularly when it comes to newer vehicles. Cars like the Ford Focus, Chevrolet Cruze, Mazda 3s and Scion tC all come to mind here.
