I have had Gran Turismo 3 for a long time now and I could never figure out what the hell the O button is good for. All I use it for is spinning my car at the end of the race. It was helpful in Gran Turismo 1 & 2 but i want to know what it does in Gran Turismo 3.

Don't you give me that tone of voice young man. J/K. I'm pretty sure it's the emergency brake. And lil_viper just settle, down he was just trying to push your buttons. Don't take things so seriously.

and yeah its the EBrake which helps you spin and...do nothing else:lol:
 
Some time i just like to kinda power slide throughout a corner it come in handy :) I use it some times in races also.

Its also what you can use to drift, if you cant do without it.
 
It indeed is the e-brake. Personally, I almost never use it, but I have occasionally... sometimes, it works really well for spinning the car around tight courses, because you're breaking almost all of the traction and letting physics do its stuff. For example, try it around the tight hairpins in the Tahiti Maze (that set of tight corner after corner after corner), or try it at that tight hairpin at SSR5 if you suddenly realize that the normal brakes would cease too much of your momentum but aren't strong enough to break traction.

No, I got the package with the PS2 and Gran Turismo 3 (The GT3 case is red, not blue) It never came with a manual. If you could give me any sites that have an online indtruction manual, that would be really helpful(that applies to anyone). Thanx!:trouble:
 
I find it helpful in Monaco/Cote D' Azur. Wide left turn, then you go down hill, that tight corner, then the very next corner, the hairpin/switchback/whatever is, is horridly tight, and the emergancy brake helps there, sometimes. It either helps, or just turns a high-powered rear-wheel drive car spin out even faster. :p
 
The only time I ever do use the "E" brake is to power-slide / drift.
 
the only time i use it is wen i rally race or try to get the escudo to turn
 
The only time i use the e-brake would have to be rally racing, spinning myself on the last lap(but i usually spin myself on the wrong lap and lose the race) and finally to get the bloody escudo to turn

Ohhh that button, well when you cross the finish line you can eject the driver out of the car.
 
I like the most of turning the viper on the downhill at I think Laguna. It has so much power if you use it while sliding down the turn you have a crazy doughnut.

This is pretty much the only racing game that it is useless in...any other game you can use the handbrake all the time to your advantage
 
Only because this game is a sim. Otherwise they would execute it very well I am sure.
 
In GT racing you don't see the racers pulling the handbake round the hairpins, it would spin them straight away. It's no good on the road in Gran Turismo because as TSi_Shiftz said it's a sim not an arcade racer.
 
I use it sometimes if my tyres are knackered and my cars understeering like hell....useful to change to a bit of oversteer from time to time!
 
Of course, the correct answer is "Whatever you want it to be, it's entirely customisable".

I think I have the handbrake on R1. From memory, I think O is reverse on my controls.

And Goomba that turn is called the Loewes or Grand Hotel Hairpin, depending upon your age. I've always found that a deek of the handbrake there often flips the car around too quickly, and I end up facing the barrier.

Remember, the handbrake is not a cure-all for missing the braking point!
 
Yeah, Luxy has a map of it posted in the OLR Training Boards, but I was too lazy to find it.

It is hard to do, but with some careful throttle manipulation, it's obtainable. I believe Gokents did it for an OLR one week with a S2000.
 
when I race i have no use for it... but when i am just messing around , I like to press it , and do a 360 spin and continue driving without lossing as much speed as possible...it looks real cool on the replays!!
 
I use the handbrake at a lot of places that have already been mentioned, plus the S-License test with the GT40. You can shave a good 1.5 seconds off the gold time if you use it correctly.

I can't wait to try the HB on the Citti di Aria track in GT4.
