What Does Your Neighborhood Look Like?

Wow where do you live? All that snow must suck.
I live in Northglenn, Colorado which is a burb north of Denver. Its the furthest thing from sucking. That much snow = good fun and a few days off from work! Because of that snow and the 7 weeks after that with at least one snow storm we had snow cover on the ground for 62 days in a row. That was only ONE day short from being an all time record. Yeah...its been a good winter I'd say. 👍
I'd kill for that amount of snow.
The only problem with it is the amount of pot holes we have around town now.

As promised, I snapped a few quick-pics today... I'll do some better ones of the surrounding area soon...

That would be the top of the East Kentwood High School football stadium (not where I went to HS). When the lights are on, it lights up the whole neighborhood in the fall. Sweet...

Boundary Layer

(second one is my friend's reaction to us sticky-ing his room some time after he passed out from the activities shown in the previous photo)

Wow! How long did it take to cover the entire room?

There were 5 of us working on it and it took around 45 mins for us. I forget how many stickies it took - another guy had them ready as retaliation for this newspapering that took place while he was away for reading week:

Yeh, it was the guy in the right picture that wanted to get back at my friend in the center picture.

Since I couldn't be bothered to go out and take a load of pictures heres a re-post of mine from a similar thread from a while back.

What is it like where I live?

I'll get the negatives out the way first and start with cars and people, and finish on a happy note. First off, Porsches, bloody Porsches everywhere, and cocks drive Porsches as we all know. No but really, Didsbury is home to a lot of yuppies, or students that are £20k in debt pretending to be yuppies because they're doing a degree in the air guitar or some balls like that. Actually I'm not being fair, theres a lot of sudents doing sciences, law and mathematics that I've met. Science is the big one at Manchester university from what I've gathered speaking to the (female) students I've met down the road in Fallowfeld on many a night out (this is a couple of years ago btw, I'd get a kick in the groin for chatting up a female fresher these days).

Manchester University on Oxford Road.

A typical example of where the yuppies go, this is a place called Est Est Est in didsbury village.

And the not so yuppy people go to Fallowfield just the other side of Withington. Places like the Revolution.

Just next to where I work almost is Chorlton, where I play Snooker, and theres Chorlton water park where you can go for a stroll, a bit of canoeing or fishing.

And then theres Sale water park a bit further down the road, just a bigger version of Chorlton water park.

And ofcourse the home of the Red Devils, the thater of dreams.

And then theres the Trafford center shopping center.

This is an area in the center of Manchester called "The Triangle" in exchange square. They put up a huge screen here where a lot of people gather to watch main sport events and such.

And the Bauer and Millet showroom some people may have heared me mention from time to time in the auto forums.

We also have dealers for Jaguar, BMW, Maserati, Vovlo, Audi and many more nearby.

It's bloody expensive living in West Didsbury (which is south Manchester), though the area itself is nice. House prices for a typical 4 bedroom two floor house start at around £200,000 ($370,000 USD) going upto and over £800,000 ($1.5mil USD).

This picture is taken from literally just around the corner from my house.

From top left: The black and white building is a local party building. This is Palatine road, one of the major bus routes in Europe. This is a cross roads, if you couldn't tell. And thaqt building on the corner is my local bank, theres a restaurante next to it and a small Blockbusters next to that.

This is part of Disbury village.

This is the Seimens building, where Siemens do a lot of technical research aparently, it's right over the road from where I work.

And where I work.

I can't find a newer picture than that , but anyway there s a business estate and a pub there now. Oh no, hang on, this is where I work.

So, pubs, we have a lot of pubs in Didsbury. Over 20 of the them. It's a good place to find a pub to suit you, be it loud and busy or calm and relaxed.

The best pub imo is one called "The Didsbury", it's located on the South side of Didsbury village just on the main road, it's a big enough pub to be busy but not to seem like it, your never stuck for room at the bar and there's always room to move about. The prices are decent as well, for Didsbury. Other than that, theres the Metropolitan, which is nearer but a lot more expensive, it's the main local pub where the local soap stars go, and over TV personalities that live in the area.

And the Red Lion, which I haven't been to for a while, but it's nice for a meal.

There's a few parks in and around Didsbury, there's 6 parks in Didsbury and another 4 or 5 in the immediately surrounding suburbs.
Thes are part of Fletcher Moss park in Didsbury.

So there are nice places to go and just get away from the streets and people and noise when you just want a quite walk with the missues.

This is the local library.

The entrance to a small gardens called Parsonage gardens.

Some pics of Didsbury village itself.

Theres three local Golf courses.
Didsbury Golf club.

Withington Golf club.

And another one I can't recall the name of, nor care to search for right now.

All in all, I like living here, it's a nice place,a bit busy at times, the pictures don't reflect how busy Didsbury gets. But all in all it offeres a lot of things I want from the area I live it.

and to top it all off, a Google earth map of the area with some places marked out.

Trafford centre is quite amazing. The food area with the ship theme, chinese theme is very nice.

The neighborhood behind my house
.

OMG!!!  !!!

Do you have woods somewhere near you? Are you reasonably close to the airport? On my visit to Hope College, I stayed with some relatives who lived just up the street from a walgreen's and the houses around looked just like that!

I will never forget, dad peeling out in that parking lot in the Aveo with the emergency brake on and spinning out!

I live about 10 minutes from the Grand Rapids Airport, and not too far away from here things get pretty woody. Actually across the street there is some private property with a lot of trees still up, but then it is houses right after it.

cheese and yssman sittin' in a tree...

A few more photos from this afternoon...

neighborhood005mi2.jpg

Yes, the East Kentwood Falcons. We played against them for two years when my High School (Forest Hills Central 'Rangers') was in their division. I have a few friends who went to EK, and they just will not shut up about Football...

neighborhood004qm8.jpg

This would be the top of the local movie theater. Considering that it is about a five minute walk from home I can't complain too much, but I'd rather head north to Ada (where I grew up) to go see a movie... Its bigger, cleaner, and full of people that I don't mind being around...

neighborhood003le0.jpg

This photo didn't turn out as good as I thought, but that would be one of the bigger strip malls nearby. There is a nice grocery store in there, as well as a nice ice cream shop, a place to get your haircut, etc. I didn't get the Fish Market or the Subway in there, but they are there... and I love the Fish place...

my.php

Whats America without fast food? I've got a McDonalds right across the street (well, across the street from the Walgreens), Steak and Shake a little further down from that, then a Bob Evans, Applebees, Logan's Roadhouse, Panera Bread, Jimmy Johns, Wendy's, and Taco Bell... And they're building a Burger King too!

neighborhood001cr2.jpg

Given that this mall is on the same block as my house, and it literally takes maybe three minutes to walk there (at most), I'm here quite a lot. We've got Chinese food, Little Caesar's Pizza, and Quiznos, not to mention the small cafe on the corner of the mall.

...Like today, I was hungry, didn't feel like making food for the family, so I walked next-door to Little Caesar's, and picked up two pizzas and a 2-liter of Pepsi for $12.50. You can't beat that...

So yes, that is my neighborhood in a nutshell. Later this week I'll take some photos from my other neighborhood, Forest Hills/Ada, where I grew up and went to school...

I did. I just simply repost them since this thread is about what your neighborhood looks like. Is there anything wrong with that?

The last thread where I post these picture was a thread about "the size of your home".

Anyways thanks Sureshot. It gets old though - lol it was only fun for the first few months. However I still enjoy relaxing and just enjoying the view once in a while.

No, I don't have a problem. I just thought I was experiencing deja vu, esp. after seeing live's post.

Stalker thread.

Anyway, here are the only pics I have of around the neighborhood. They're of the "aftermath" of Hurricane Wilma, however.

I am so jealous. I love palm trees. :guilty:We could only dream of having scenery that beautiful. Michigan is a dump not even worth sharing pics especially right now with over a foot of snow. All you see everywhere is white and brown scenery and dead looking trees. Very ugly and depressing in the winter. Well sometimes right after a huge snow fall it looks pretty but most of the time its just ugly.

Yeah, palms are pretty cool. My folks have been here for 40 years.

Anyway, here are my Aunt's surroundings where she lives in Arkansas.

I think it's far more beautiful there in the country (when it's nice out) than in what has become an urban-suburbia over here.

Here is a beautiful (and huge) house over there that's closer to the city.

The neighborhood that that thing was in was just awesome.

My neighborhood from the top down. courtesy of Google maps.

Pretty small little boring neighborhood off of Highway 281. I have a few neighbors, but it's not exactly a neighborhood.

pros:
Highway can be a relaxing drive at times (to me at least)
No traffic
Pitch black and silent at night (unless I'm still up  )
Forest right next to my house to prowly around with me buddies playing airsoft.

Cons:
Lot of gas to go in and out of town every day.
inconvenience of being located so far away from a store.
NO DSL CABLE ANYTHING. Dial up or outrageously priced satelite internet out here :(.
dirt road = never have a clean car.

My neighborhood, like at least half the developments in Panama City, is a cul-de-sac. There are main roads winding all through the edges of town, and developments branch off of those, from which there are no other ways out. My house is about 200 yards from the end of the street. The street ends because it intersects the bay.

Here's today's sunset from the park at the end of the street.

venetianparksunsetrl3.jpg

My neighborhood is immediately north of the local airport, this view is looking about 45 degrees south of the sunset view, at the same time.

towardsairportic4.jpg

Now for some fun. This view is during the Hurricane Dennis storm surge. It's not the same zoom, but taken from about the same place. The posts you see sticking up in the center are the tops of the pier posts you see in the above pictures, and the line of greenery sticking up from the water is the same greenery at the bottom of the above pic.

Dennis was not as bad here as further west. Pensacola was hit really hard, and still recovering from Ivan the year before.

towardairportivanfw6.jpg

This picture is from about 200 feet west of my house, looking towards the park in the above pictures. The storm drains on our streets run out to the bay, but since the bay rose from the surge, it pushed up into the streets through the drains. These idiots are driving through salt water, not rain water! The park is just past the house on the right. The house in the center is the house in the left edge of the picture above.

stormsurge1nd7.jpg

Now a picture just east of the above pic, from in front of the house behind mine. The people walking are approaching the current edge of the bay! That's about as high as the water got, and none of the houses in my neighborhood were actually flooded.

stormsurge2yu9.jpg

Here's a couple of Google Earth views. First shows the locations of my house and the park, the second one illustrates the cul-de-sac issue I mentioned before. My daughter had a friend in one of the houses in the yellow zone, right where it touches the blue zone. We can see their house from our driveway, but it's nearly a 2-mile trip to get here.

^ Are you at the end by the Air Force base? My family and I used to vacation in Panama City Beach every year, so I've been around there quite a bit. I haven't been down there since 2000 or 2001, but my Grandparents stay just up the road in Fort Walton Beach.

...I love PCB, and I would have liked to have come down this year. But we're going to Miami this summer, so that trip is shot...

Nope, north side of town. That runway is the Panama City/Bay County International Airport. On my Google Earth shot, the blue zone is in Panama City, the upper Yellow is unincorporated.

Yes, the word International is in our airport's name. There has never been a single scheduled International flight, but there's a customs office. Our board has visions (delusions?) of grandeur.

Big house?...

That one has its own cul-de-sac at the top of a very wealthy 7-house neighborhood. The owners are old and have a Mercury Sable wagon. :boggled:

That's Charlie Sheen's old $17,000,000 house, tucked back in behind the trees on a short but awesomely curvy road. Can't even see it in the summer.
