What exactly are the licenses for?

On previous versions of GT you needed a license to get access to the higher level races. They had a purpose and I could understand their inclusion, but now you have the level system and the licenses just seem a bit pointless. Why would someone who just wants to play the game for fun decide they'd like to try going round random corners over and over again or accelerating in a straight line and parking their car in a box?

Have I missed something here?

It is a good start to get the prize cars for free. I haven't taken notice of this, good point. I would think the point of doing them would be to get the trophy for doing all gold.

Licensing does seem pointless so far. But, I'm only at level 14. Maybe PD included licensing with the intent to allow online hosts another filter to be set for lobbies? It's not there as an option now. But, maybe they plan to include it in an update. I'm trying to be optimistic on this.

Mad XP and free cars?

I was hoping to get a (special luxury car for getting all gold on all the licence's) would have been a nice touch and a added incentive for other's pursuing getting them. I did it mainly because I like to, was fun/challenging and got some nice car's/xp did the licence's after I bought my first car and before I did a race. One of my favourite things in GT is the Licence's. Just a bit meh no special car for getting all gold on all of them.

Thank God I didn't even know the events could be played without those . I completed all the licenses first.
