xfer, i dont know if your just trying to pull our legs around here because this is the second simple question you have asked now. The first being about the convertable.

A roll cage is a array of metal tubes either bolted or weilded into a car to provide security to the passengers usually in high speed racing such as rallying and most circuit racing. It can also be used to stiffen the chassis of a car but this depends of what type of roll cage is installed. Some people only use half cages for looks which doesnt provide as much protection as a full cage would.

Next time you have a simple question like this i suggest that rather than make up a thread about it you type the question into google or search wikipedia for the answer.

Well - Actually, since you're sticking a ton of CrMoly tubes in your car, you're raising the weight, and thus adding body roll..

It reduces body flex on the other hand :-)

That's not a picture of a roll-cage it's a 'space-frame' chassis. The difference being that with a space-frame the suspension, drive-train and body panels are all attached to it where as a roll-cage stiffens the cars original 'monocoque' chassis (to which the suspension and drive-train etc are attached.

A roll cage does have two purposes. a) to protect the driver from a roll. b) to stiffen the connection between the suspension mounting points, enabling a more consistant platform for them to work best.

They tend to be made of steel rather than iron too
