Everyone should have Demon's Souls on their "at least to try" list. Seriously it's likely dissimilar to anything else you've ever played... and in a good way :D.

It doesn't look that much different from other fantasy RPG's out there, just with the twist you can keep playing after you die. The story though looks like it uses the fantasy RPG formula pretty heavily though. I'm not knocking in, I'll probably check it out and buy it if the voice acting and script writing are good. I'm always suspect of Japanese RPG's since they tend to be weirder than weird sometimes.

Well I admit I haven't played them all, but I have played a bunch of them and this goes right near the top of the list for me. The Baldur's Gate series is still the best of the best for me, played it is a completely different play style. This is a 3rd person action RPG, more like (not exactly like mind you) BG: Dark Alliance for the PS2. However it is so much better.

Yes the story is fairly generic, man plays with powers he doesn't understand, man unleashes dark malevolent force, world gets engulfed in evil and a new man/woman is required to set everything right again. I mean it's done well enough and the voice acting is mostly serviceable but it doesn't really tread any new ground. However one does not fall in love with this game for the story and voice acting I promise, one falls in love with it for the design of the game play and how well it is implemented. Also many get addicted to the online components which are equally well done.
 
Sounds like Diablo then, the game had an awful story and a simplistic game play formula but I still play it to this day. Like I said, I'll check it out since action RPG's are few and far between.

I was thinking about getting Super Street Fighter IV, since I have the original one that came out a while back. However, I saw that its only $40 bux and it seems to be more of an addon than anything else, so I changed my mind on that one.

I also was gonna look into Split Second, but I see that its being published by Disney so I'll probably pass on that.

Not much of a gamer (other than driving/racing sims) but I've been planning to get Heavy Rain. GT5 of course, and we'll see if rFactor2 comes out this year (which means I have to upgrade my current macbook pro to the latest one).

Just got NFS Hot Pursuit to change from GT5 to something more arcady once in a while.

Others on my list for this year:
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim
- Starhawk (if it comes this year, still not confirmed)

Maybe getting:
- Shift 2: depending on if I like the demo. Shift 1 was such a disappointment in that regard that the demo will need to be really convincing :D
- SSX Deadly Descents
- Killzone 3
