This is one of those things I've wondered. What got you into motorsports?

For me I was pretty much raised up on it. My dad use to drag race and was a huge motorsport fan. I caught the bug when I was young (about around 3 or 4). I watch a wide range of sports, particularly NASCAR and NHRA. Every year I try to watch the 24hrs of Daytona and LeMans. I'm trying to get back into F1 (I kind of fell out the last two years when SPEED changed their veiw time).

My brother who is now a Naval Mechanic would watch the Speed Channel and would tell me about WRC and mechanics.

This is a topic I would normally come up with. I was thinking about something like this. Chose not to. Sportscar racing is what got me into racing. I even remembered playing "Formula 1 World Championship" on my Nintendo 64. Some video games have gotten me into racing. What gets me into other kinds of racing is when motorsports aren't marketed like NASCAR events.

For the first-time ever on GTPlanet, I've given some reputation out. I gave this one positive reputation. Cheers, mate.

I suppose my dad got me into motorsport. Back in '95 he took me to the Australian Grand Prix, but after that I pretty much paid no attention to motorsport what-so-ever. In around '01 or '02 something got me interested in V8 Supercars, not quite sure now. Then dad and my step mum got my step brother and I a PS2 for christmas with Gran Turismo 3 and that game got me even more interested in motorsport and cars in general.

I got into motorsports when schumacher try to block villeneuve in 97 in jerez and schumi became my favorite driver after that ^^

Growing up it was the family going out to the local stock car track on saturday nights. Only to then wake up early sunday mornings to take my dads 55 chevy out to the dragstrip to race it. I spent many a year growing up around race cars.

I honestly have no idea. During my early childhood, my dad was a train driver and my mum a teaching assistant, and neither had any interest in motorsports or cars at all. All I know is that the first race I watched on the telly was the 1996 Australian GP, and haven't missed a race since. My cousin, who I saw about once a year, was into cars, as was my best friend at the time - so I guess it comes from them.

My dad subscribed to car magazines, went to races, so it was sort of in my blood. I started watching the occasional race on TV in 1986, and once I discovered ESPN the following year, I was hooked.

Before there was SpeedTV/Speed Channel, ESPN was a little-known cable channel that had almost no other live sporting everts except for track-and-field, billiards, some college football and baseball, and big-league pre-season events. Since there were lots of gaps to fill, and SportsCenter was the only regular programming on at the time, multiple types of auto racing filled in during all sorts of slots. There seemed to be some sort of tape-delayed event on every two hours or so, and plenty of live stuff on Sundays. ESPN even had their own weekly version of The Speed Report, but I forget what it was called.

Ironically, the first F1 race I saw was on ABC, who had the rights to the Monaco GP.

When I was a kid my dad would take me to the local figure eight track and they shut it down in my teenage years to open Kentucky Speedway. As I got older a family friend began working for DEI in Charlotte and I would occasionally watch Dale Sr on NASCAR. I began losing interest in NASCAR as I got older and became more of a car guy. This love of cars led me to Gran Turismo in college. I began playing it and fell in love with this road racing thing. It made me realize why I coudln't get into NASCAR, it wasn't a road or cars I could relate to.

Then one day I was online doing a serach for "GT" and I saw a link referring to GT and GTR. I clicked on it and found myself at americanlemans.com, actually I think it was alms.com then. I looked at some pics and the TV schedule and found one race that would be sort of shown on broadcast TV. I watched it and called my friend that also played Gran Turismo. We didn't realize there was such an exciting series in America. Then I looked for locations close to Kentucky on the schedule and picked the Petit LeMans. The rest is history. Now I am likely to watch any form of road racing, but in particular sports car racing.

The desire was always in my blood as I kept trying to watch the racing everyone else was watching, but my desire was left unfulfilled until I discovered Le Mans.

Dad's always worked with cars and been interested in motorsport (Drag Racing, F1, etc) so I've been linked through him. I'll watch just about any motorsport, maybe even Oval racing at a stretch!

Yeah, I have my dad to thank for it too. He (and his three brothers) were right into the local rallying scene at about my age, throwing Hillman Imps around the place before dad upgraded to a 1974 Mitsubishi Lancer (we've been Lancer fans ever since), thogh he stopped when he got married. Strangely, out of me and my ten cousins on his side of the family, only two of us inherited the gasoline-for-blood syndrome. My dad was also one of the men responsible for building the Hampton circuit for Sydney's Hills District Car Club ...

WRC and F1. My relatives always said I had an interest in cars from a young age.

My dad was a rally driver, my mum was a Co-driver, my uncle did a bit of rallying also, I was brought up around cars, I watch as much motorsport as I can, and plan to get directly involved in racing in the next few years, but for now watching it on the TV is good enough for me.

Well my first word was "Honda", so i guess i was into cars from a 'VERY' young age.
Growing up i would ask to go to the local video store & i would rent videos of mid-90's WRC & F1 seasons, then we got cable and i was in heaven watching Rallycross, The Dakar Rally, Superbikes, MotoGP & all that.

I probably spent more time watching cars/bikes/trucks than cartoons when i was younger and when the Australian GP was moved to Melbourne in '96, i was there on race day.

A few years when i was 8 or 9, my dad got me a go-kart and i tried my hand at racing, went fairly well (Finishing 3rd in a wet race w/full slicks FTW) but we had to give it up as it was getting seriously pricey.

Now i'm just an armchair enthusiast.

When I was really young I can remember watching F1 and stuff but it all changed a bit later in life. When I was about 14-15 my Dad made me take a day off school to go to the RAC rally, Carlos Sainz was the first one to go past flat out in a Celica at the end of a decent straight and that was it. Rally is still my top motorsport discipline and I can't get enough.

For me it was also the old man taking me to a stockcar track when i was 4 or 5 and then him racing at the same track and ive been involved in Stockcars ever since including racing Ministocks for 3 seasons with mixed results. it also didnt help that my grandparents used to own a videostore so id get free rentals of old racing videos like the 89 f1 video (now own that) and the Havoc video series (love them) so u'd say it's been engrained in my mind ever since. Now into Touring Cars

I got into motorsports after watching a very exciting NASCAR race at just 6 years old. It is odd that I am the only one in my family who enjoys motorsports. The rest hate it.

I consider myself to be the ultimate motorsport 'purest'

I enjoy every form of motorsport. NASCAR, Le Mans, Formula 1, IRL, WRC, Drag Racing, anything. If it involves getting somehwere faster then the other guy I like it. I think that seperates me from alot of motorsport fans. There isn't a type of racing that I wouldn't enjoy doing myself or watch on TV. I love the competition

Unlike other sports there is so much variety to motorsport that makes it great.

My dad worked for a company who sponsored shcumi's Benneton, and he brought back a 1:43 model and some photos and I guess that was it.

For me, it was a mixture of nascar, monster trucks, & big rigs...all thanks to my Dad--rest his soul. He took me to see the Indy 500 when I was real young (3-4.) I've been hooked on powerful machines ever since. 👍

My family with help from GT. The men in my family have always worked with vehicles of some sort. My Dad especially was forever changing cars. When I discovered GT it was about the time when I needed to decide what I wanted to do with my life. GT mad eme wonder what it'd be like to work with real racing cars. So now I'm at uni do Motorsport Engineering and have worked at Cadena Motorsport British GT team.

My favourite racers are GT cars without a doubt because they're a bit more exotic than your average road car but you can still relate to them. And they get some real close racing action.

My dad.He was into rally, stockcars, sprints, openwheel, snowmobiles and go-karts.I grew up at the track and raced some my self.I will watch anyform of racing.👍
