He is saying that a laptop is a poor choice to use for iRacing. Usually the graphic cards in a laptop can not run iRacing very well.

All you need really is 512Mb or better of video memory in a laptop. They usually have in excess of 4gb ram and come with the intel i3,i5,i7 like the one i use to play iRacing. Im not really certain but is the Nvidia carrying 420Mb? I get away with somewhere in the middle on the slider thing and just turn off some of the unnecessary things like the in car steering wheel and manage 84 fps and virtually no stuttering.

Its an XPS so I suspect the laptop is packing performance over the average laptop.

OK thanks for the detailed response, here are the specs of the GPU as I don't have a clue what I'm looking at :P http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GT-420M.35837.0.html

even though your laptop passed you might have limitations in frame rate, you might need to reduce graphics in some capacity.

Yeah your laptop should run it. I have a pc at the moment which has a similar graphics card but worse processor and it runs iracing locked at 60fps with the graphics turned down to the 2nd lowest preset. I probably could bump it up but it does the trick for what I need

Check out This Site it will check your PC/Laptop for iRacing

Thats what i got :sly: it tells me my graphics card is a piece of junk

Thats what I get too with my laptop that I use for iRacing and other games. I can usually run it on medium/low settings. It only says that for me because I have a crap integrated graphics card, but 6 gigs of RAM.

i was curious

Results of my $700 laptop. To be honest, if this laptop can run it then most laptops with a dedicated graphics card will. iRacing isn't a very graphic-intensive game, but it manages to give some convincing graphics. It really doesn't need more graphics in my opinion because you shouldn't be focusing on the pixels here and there, you should be focusing on the drive! :sly:

Hey guys....

Thought I'd chime in here and hopefully get a bit of information.

---

Been very excited about getting into iRacing recently, but am having the same concerns.

My laptop would be my only option, as my desktop is far too out-of-date, and it does not quite pass the test linked earlier. The snag is the graphics card... BUT, in that section, it says I meet minimum regs..

Features: Minimum attributes of your Video Card

Required You Have
Video RAM 256 MB 1.7 GB
Hardware T&L Yes Yes
Pixel Shader version 3.0 4.0
Vertex Shader version 3.0 4.0
---------

This is only an issue (because I would simply do a trial membership) because I've yet to buy a wheel and pedal. And I don't want to sink the money, if I can't iRace.

So... Do you think I can run it?

"Intel Pentium p6200
4 GB
Intel HD Graphics"

I did. What I just wrote was...

It did not pass my graphics card, but in the additional section directly under, it said I cleared everything.

You will be fine.
My laptop has the exact same video card results as yours and it runs fine. The numbers from the test even exceed the min. requirements yet the website claims it fails
For the most part I race on my main / server PC which is crazy fast, and has all the necessary equipment for triple screens (which run beautifully), but that computer always fails the video card test as well. It seems the test page really likes Nvidia cards.

No, sorry, that wasn't very clear in my post.
Originally I started out using my laptop but recently switched to my main pic so I could run multiple screens. I only use my laptop occasionally for racing now and when I do it runs into my tv and only the tv screen is used.

Hmm... First thing I've heard that makes me optimistic..

I keep reading that the Intel HD Graphics (because they're integrated?) are no good.

I would essentially stick to oval (Nascar) racing if that makes any difference at all.

Thanks.

By 'exact same results', I mean Exact ;)

I'll run a race tomorrow on my laptop and take note of frame rates and overall quality vs my main rig if you'd like. I'm somewhat curious myself now so I will probably do it anyway

That'd be awesome. It would be interesting to see how yours runs. Even though it does seem quite a bit faster than mine:

Only in chipspeed and RAM though - ok, that's a major 2, but yours still passes the test easily. Your RAM will not max out if you are only running iRacing, and honestly - what's .54 GHz between racers :sly:

Good point. If I knew for sure I could run it, I'd take the plunge. So, it'd be great if you could let me know how that test run goes.

I'd hate to spend 200 bucks on a G27 set, or 350 on the CSR package (I have Xbox so it'd be nice to have), only to find out that I can't use them!
