What happened to my neck? Last night, i woke up and the back left of my neck kind-of "snapped". It made a big noise too. Now, it hurts really badly unless i kind of tilt my head in a weird way. What happened? :ouch:

"Ask GTPlanet!" isn't the best place to ask.
I suggest "Ask A Doctor!"

Aging. It gets worse.

Give it a few days. Time is the only real cure. However, there are things you can do to make it feel 'better.' Hot showers, massage, warm towel or cloth around your neck, support your head with a pillow when sitting and whatever you can think of to make it feel better.

Maybe you have(or had) a knot? I don't know. One time I did wake up and nothing popped but it hurt like hell and I mean hurt to turn my head to the left. That would be a knot but it's probably not in your case.

Yeah, sounds like a knot. When I get up, I get all those crackles out. Occasionally, I'll get a big one, and it hurts for the better part of a day.

Doctor > internet forums
As much as I trust GTP, and know how intelligent you all are, a doctor is just a better choice if you really want to know what it is.

I personally haven't had it happen when I woke up, but I have had pain in my neck when moving it to certain positions. It never lasted very long.

Muscle. You've pulled something.

If it was something really serious, you'd be sure about it.

I'd still go to the doctors though. Maybe get some anti-inflammatories.

Please, he’s in Melbourne.

 Solid Lifters, my parents are saying the same as you, I think time might be the only cure as you said. I dont think its a knot either, ive never had one. It was just a giant SNAP or CRACK lol. I dont think its that bad as to see a doctor, only if its not too much better by tommorow, anyway. My parents said its called "Stiff neck" or something, im not too sure though.

And GTP for questions > (almost) all 💡

Do you have any of the following:

- Radiation of the pain to one or both upper extremities? The finding of radiation of the pain to one or both upper extremities would suggest a space-occupying lesion such as a herniated disk, spinal cord tumor, fracture, or cervical spondylosis.

- Focal neurologic findings? The presence of focal neurologic findings make a space-occupying lesion even more likely, and the conditions that should be considered are fracture, herniated disk, spinal cord tumor, and cervical spondylosis. One should not forget a Pancoast's tumor.

- Nuchal rigidity? The finding of nuchal rigidity suggests meningitis or subarachnoid hemorrhage.

If not just walk it off ya big girls blouse!

Just ignore the pain, its probably a whiplash or something. Happened to me before. Give it a few days, and the pain will be gone. Its nothing serious really, no need to see a doctor unless of course the pain prolonged for a week. :scared:

Sounds like a knot, I had one the other week, didn't go away for 2 days & I couldn't turn my head left without it hurting like hell :(

Been there, done that.
Heat, massage and if it's really sore some Mersydol night time strength from the Chemist. It has a muscle relaxant which will help 'unknot' whatever you have pulled and if it's still sore Monday go see a physio and they will crack your neck and make it all right. If you are getting any tingling in for fingers then the muscle thats knotted will be pinching a nerve, physio will sort that out too.

Happened to me once, not a big deal. Pain lasted about 2 days. Happened the morning after a big football game in which I was bashing some heads in.

You know, they make pain medicine so you don't have to go "arrrraaaarrgghgh" the whole time while you're healing...

Sound like you pulled a muscle or something. I forgot what it's called. Hamstring or something?

I'm surprised that so many people are saying go to the doctor. Doctors are there for chronic or recurring problems, not one time things, except for heart attacks and the like. If it happens again, go in and have it checked out. If not, use the money you didn't spend on the doctor to go buy some chron, err, games. Yeah, games.

Your hamstring is the muscle that goes up the back of your thigh. I'm not a doctor but I doubt that a pain in the neck is a symptom of a pulled hamstring
