What happened to the in between race save when competing in championship races that involves multiple races?! They used to have that in GT4, but what happened?!!! Is there some secrete way to save that I don't know about?!

Unfortunately, no.

It is a general consensus that this was removed to propel the decay older machines and boost sales of newer defective ones.

Well if you was able to save between championships it wouldn't really be a championship but regular separated events.

Ecchi-BANZAII!!

Yeah, because in real life you end one race in a place like Indy and 3 minutes later start a new one in Monza!

I fell asleep last night while butthead-Bob was driving my Mclaren F1 Stealth because he can't win in anything else. Had to leave the PS3 on all night! Eeeerr.:¦

Because they decided it would be a grand idea to remove every single good feature they had in previous games.

Yesssssssss.

That's not true at all. You don't have to place 1st in all of the races to win a championship. Much like a entire season of F1 or NASCAR. The inability to save in between races in a championship just does _NOT_ make any sense to me. I understand some hesitation of in race saves (which becomes useful when you are no longer a kid and playing 12 hours straight on an endurance race is just not possible)... but not in between races!!!! Argh... Also, in the championship races, there used to be "Practice" which I thought was their way of doing "qualifying", but they got rid of that too!!!!! WTH?!

Chalk it up to being the 1400th terrible decision by PD.

I swear, thank god the driving is good, because that's about all we have.

I think not being able to save adds to the challenge.

The championships are nowhere near as long as the endurance races (however B-Spec can be as long as 5 hours).

I recently had the most fun I've ever had in GT5 doing the Japanese championship. I challenged myself to win using a car no better than the AI. I used a NSX 91.

I had to practice each race first before attempting the championship because my intention was not to reset no matter how badly I did in any race.

Going into the last race I was holding on to a slim 60pt lead. All I had to do was finish in the top 3 or stop that jerk Rossi from winning. I chocked and crashed multiple times. I had to claw my way back from last to 3rd.

I thought I had lost the championship but I finished TIED for first and still got the gold. That was some heartpounding racing fun.

I only wish we could run championships online :(

No way, I do not want my championship to be lost because I got disconnected from that 🤬 server.

I never said anything about winning but since you put that up to further strengthen my point, It's better to have it as it is since you have one try at it and then move on. They don't retake races because said driver didn't finish first.
You get a race, move on without being able to do it again until you finished the rest and then get a championship rank from it.

But if they implemented save function between races it'd be simple to just disable the previously won races you've done as well as prevent retry to make it similar to how it is now.
That way you CAN save, do something else, turn off the PS3 and other things without ruining the championship.

This is the most accurate comment i have ever read.

have you every played GT4 and know how the in between race save works?! basically you are allowed to "leave" the championship race screens, but automatically saving the game immediately. Furthermore, you won't be able to do anything else in the GT mode other than returning to the exact championship race that exited from.

Sure you can argue that one can simply reset the game if they didn't perform up to par to re-enter the race... but then we really are talking about cheaters... and if they want to cheat, who cares... let them. If that bugs the purist so much, then implement a "quick save" mode that's very common in other games (especially in the RPG or Nintendo DS world). Basically when user choose to do a "quick" save, the game will exit immediately after the save. Later, when the user reloads the game, the quick saved file will be reloaded but the file is immediately removed. Hence, they can't simply reboot halfway in the next race to "retry"...

I haven't played the full GT5, so I don't know the rest of the championship races. But assuming there is one F1 championship race consists of 8~10 races. Each F1 race is about 1:30hr ~ 2hrs. I will NOT be able to sit there for 20 hours straight to complete the championship! That is stupid!

Please understand I am a GT fan, and have played GT4 diligently (100% complete and continue to play it after completion). But PD dropped quite a few balls on GT5... quite a bit of stuff is a step back from GT4. 👎

unlike GT4, the FGT championship is only 5 races long @ 20 laps each, so you're still looking at a long time to be playing... Its just too much for me as im really only getting 2-3 hours a night in and with a power nazi i dont think i can leave it on over night let alone a weekend :(

Thanks for shedding more light.
I too am stealing time every time I play GT. With two young kids, I only get to play when they are in bed. During the weekdays I can probably only clock in about an hour, and maybe a couple during the weekends... what were they (PD) thinking when they took the in-between races saves away?!

I also want qualifying back. I often try to make the races as challenging as possible, so often I'll bring in a totally underpowered car, which means just to post the similar lap times as the leader, it would be difficult. So, it's very important to be able to start at the front of the grid, and hence I need to be able to qualify to the front, and not always start in the middle!!!!

Why do people celebrate their post count?
It's the quality of their content and not the total number of your posts that matter ;)

As for the OP - whilst I agree with you, there aren't very many races in GT5 that would warrant saving mid-championship so it's not that big a deal. Aside from the FGT that I won't do anyway. Still, it would be nice to have loads of lengthy championships and save-ability like in GT4 👎

Not to compare, but I have a busy life. No way on earth I could sit down for any endurance race. Now if they would save I could slowly progress through.

There are a lot of things that were in GT4 (and also even in GT1) that are not in GT5 ;))

I agree completely. Starting from the middle of the pack with no chance to improve is one of my biggest pet peeves. I'm using the Zonda R on the ALL Stars and half the time there's a super fast car in pole that just takes off with no chance of me catching them since I have to weave through traffic (and try to race clean). That and not having any practice time between each race. They should make it like EVERY SINGLE RACE SERIES where you have an optional practice session, a qualifying, and then the race. Of course, that would require you to be able to save between each race since it would take longer.

Great story! I just did the same thing two nights ago. I entered the championship with an RX-7 modded to match the fastest car under the typical opponents. I limited myself to sport soft tires. Each race I was able to get a jump on my opponents and work into the top 5 midway through lap 1. I had to wait for key passing zones to safely get around the other drivers making sure to stay clear of them on dangerous parts of the courses since a light love tap could send me spinning. Most of the races I was out in front mid race but that dam Rossi in the '97 MR2 was breathing down my neck at every turn really turning the heat up on the last few laps. I was quicker on the straights but he was quicker in the twisties. We traded places a few times throughout the championship. By the final race I was racing real defensively, just trying to keep ahead enough so I wouldn't get bumped entering a chicane. Loads of fun when the stakes are high...ok not that high. I had 1 hr to play and there wasn't enough time to reset and start from the beginning.

yup yup yup!!!
I am just surprise that this didn't even occur to kazunori who is truly a motor sport fan. He know that EVERY race consists of first practice sessions, then qualifying, and then race day. And in a truly well matched series, starting from the middle of the grid means no way of finishing on podium which means qualifying is very important! Sigh... all that time they wasted to get damage in the GT series... I would give it up in a heartbeat to get back all the good things that were lost between the previous GT series and GT5.
