Well it didn't get outlawed during the French GP weekend. but give it time before it actually does work and then Briatore and the rest of Renault start complaining its illegal.

Do not take offence to this but it won't be the 1st time Renault have complained about an aero device.

They'll be banned by the time Hockenheim roles around, just watch...

I don't see why. They didn't romp away with a win, or even perform higher then were expected. The reason why they'd be banned is because they look stupid.

Super Aguri should roll out with a giant kanamara chassis at hockenheim.

But it’s not illegal. There is not reason for them to complain, at all.

Malaysia GP as far as I can remember but it was one of those opening races where Ferrari had a different rear wing element, and they were making a big stink about it.

They're in an area that's designated in the rules as free bodywork, whatever can be put there is OK, as long as it doesn't move. They can only be banned by changing the rules.

As for performance, it was interesting to hear David Hobbs on Saturday predicting a forest of vertical fins at the next race, when the BMWs were quickest in the session before qualifying. Then during the race, when it became known that the BMWs were the only ones to finish that session on new tires, he changed his tune, pointing out that neither the qualifying effort or race result pointed to any real advantage.

Of course, it would have been clearer to us whether they do anything if one car had them and the other didn't.

I am pretty sure BMW Sauber can make those flaps smaller and a different style that is more efficient. I even predict the BMW's being a super power next year. Remember 2001-2003?

And they're gone.

FIA
In view of recent developments to bodywork forward of the cockpit opening on some cars, we have become concerned that these devices may impair the forward and/or lateral vision of the driver.

Therefore, under Article 2.3 of the F1 Technical Regulations, unless any team concerned can clearly demonstrate to the satisfaction of the technical delegate and the stewards that their driver's vision is not impaired in any way by such devices, no bodywork higher than the top of the front roll structure will be permitted forward of it.

I do recall seeing that it would be an FIA policy to allow a new device to run, but then ban it before the other teams could copy it. Perhaps this is an instance of that. I can't actually recall seeing them in France anyway, so they're obviously not that aesthetically upsetting.

the drivers said that they were ok driving with them ...
Yep, all three BMW drivers have said that their vision was not impaired by these devices.

Giles: They were very difficult to see during the T.V. coverage unless the cameras were looking at the car from a side-on angle. Indeed, I was keeping an eye out for them, and I did not see them all that often during the race (then, they weren’t showing much of the BMWs :dopey:)…

they had the 5th or 6th fastest race lap so they were quick although it didn't show

You don’t get any points for throwing together a single lap that is somewhat competitive. :p

hpoefully they will have a good race in germany , isn't time to start a thread about that anyway?
