I am really pissed off now. I have bought 2 copies of GT4 in the last 2 days! I returned the first, seeing as it was used, and I bought a new copy. My PS2 still gives it the DRE. Mind you that my system plays a scratched up copy of GTA Vice City! Whats wrong with it??? :(

Has anything ever happened to your ps2 like falling off a desk, or a little aggression perhaps?

Ive had two ps2's die and both times were because of an impact of some sort. It will work fine, then will only play a couple games, then can only read ps1 disks.

Your problem doesn't sound that bad though. I suggest getting some compressed air, 'piano cleaner' as it may be called, and spraying it in the open spaces to try to clear up some dust. you could also completely open up your ps2 and do this for a complete clean to try and solve the problem.

That's all i know, hopefully your ps2 will get better

I've ran a lens cleaner.... maybe 5 times. It still doesn't work. I'm really not about to open up my PS2.

Maybe its wear? Its been used every day, left on day and night for the past 4 years.

Do you have to keep resetting the PS2 until GT4 starts? cause thats what i have to do.

It could just be that is your ps2's time to go. Thats amazing that its been running for 4 years straight, and thats obviously your problem, after that much usage, anything will start to break.

I would open it up definitely, Ive done it like 5 times on lots of different PS2's for other people. I bought a supposedly dead PS2 for £20 which had a constant DRE opened it up, gave it a through clean and its never had a DRE or even a glitch once for 3 years... my other one I own hasn't had anything for 9 years...

If you open it up however follow a guide just to be safe and I would recommend drawing a scale picture of the bottom of the ps2 on a piece of paper and the screw hole locations so you can lay them down on the drawing for the correct holes to go back because they all are different lengths!

Sometimes Cleaning disks don't clean aswell as getting in there yourself and totally cleaning on the system.

wow dude. for years non stop running a ps2?that smells like a world record?!:sly:

had my ps2 for 5 years, just sold it and i had dome DRE aswell, but it worked again when i used a "cleaning lense" cd.

good luck with your ps2!:)

Ok... I'm up to the part where you take the cover off the disk drive, but the damned plastic srews wont come off.... :grumpy:

EDIT: I think I brokeded it.

Lens needs to be re-adjusted sounds like. Ive had my PS2 since the 3rd month they hit the shelves and only problem ive ever had was my power supply went out about 2 years ago. That was a whopping $14.oo plus shipping. My cousins had a reading problem and i adjusted the laser for him and it fixed it right up. But if your not good with electronics find a tutorial which they are everywhere and print it out to give it to someone that is to do it. Most of the time it fixes it. If not, goto a pawn shop or game trade place and buy another one for next to nothing.

A friend of mine finally gave up on one of our PS2s. It started DREing again, and just as he was about to open it up for about the fifth time, he decided to just trash it instead. He and his roommate threw it around outside and then dropped a box of Subaru parts on it.

No matter, he can just try to use one of the other occasionally-DREing PS2s we have laying around. It's funny to think back to 2000, when the PS2 seemed like an amazing, unobtainable pinnacle of technological greatness.

How on earth did that happen!..... oh well you could buy a slim line one, Ive always wanted one of those

Or buy a PS3.....

The GT4 discs are dual layered I think and are not too good a quality - I had the same problem (had to buy a new copy) and so did a friend of mine. To much coincedence...:indiff:

ARen't all Ps2 Discs DVD-Rs?

Silver-backed discs are DVD-ROMs. Blue-backed discs are CD-ROMs.

GT4 is a dual-layer DVD-ROM.

Nvm..some how if I answer back with a answer, most likely I am going to be :dunce:

Well, seeing as my PS2 is a very expensive Paperweight, and that the PS3 just got a 100 Dollar price drop... A PS3 might be in the cars. :D
