A convertible is a car where you can open the roof. They're also called "cabriolet".

For your race, try the Mazda MX-5.

EDIT: oh, and welcome to the forum. You'll find answers to pretty much any question you might develop while playing GT4 here, so have a look around. Especially the stickied threads of this section might help you.

Hello xfer,

Welcome to GTP!

Have a look at our GT4 game guide in the 'Game Guides' section... in this link here you'll find a list of the races and which cars you can expect to race against in each type of race... that should give you some idea of which cars you can use... for the 'Spider & Roadster' series, have a look through some of these threads here...

Ty so much!

Ya, i was googling and found that this site has alot of infos and the discussions are very active. Thats y i registered =)

Im glad i made the right decision.

Edit :

I had a quick look at it, very good details indeed. However, when u mentioned "ou'll find a list of the races and which cars you can expect to race against in each type of race... that should give you some idea of which cars you can use", do u mean by choosing one of those cars and fully tune them?

Kind of, yes. You might not even have to tune them, at least not fully. Some more power and soft tyres should be plenty.

Oh, and there's another thing. Please don't use abbreviations like "y" for "why", "u" for "you" and so on. Properly written language is easier on the eye and will keep you out of trouble. 👍

You don't have to fully tune a car in order to win races. Just get something that qualifies and is good enough to take on the best cars in the series. For the Spider & Roadster race, your toughest opposition will be the Lotus Elise and the Nissan 350Z. You could always just buy your own Elise, or you could look for something else that qualifies and is competitive.

Toyota MRS for me 👍
Please do also read at least the first post, and not just the topic.

You've been here for so long and made so many postings - do you really need to browse threads and add a sentence with no content everywhere?

Thread says "What is the best convertible car?"

And the MRs is the best car IMO, DUH!

I trying to complete the beginner race, but i have no clue what a convertible car is and which to choose
As explained, convertibles are cars that have removable tops, and there are over 35 of them in GT4.

Arguably the best performing is the 1967 Shelby Cobra 427, but the 2002 TVR Tamora is 1/7th the cost of Shelby and is nearly as capable.

However, both of these are absolute overkill for that race, and completely unnecessary.

I would suggest either the 2004 Mazda MX-5 Miata 1800 RS or the 2002 Toyota MR2 Spyder. These cars cost less than $25,000 new, and can win the race without ANY modifications or adjustments.

I hope this helps, and welcome to GTP.

If a car has no top, is it truly a convertible?

Yes, but the first post specifies the question and would have lead you to a different answer, if you only read it. That's why I said that you should have.

The first post specifies two questions...

I trying to complete the beginner race, but i have no clue what a convertible car is and which to choose

The definition of a convertible had already been explained by numerous people. Pink was answering the latter part of the question with what the best convertible is in his opinoin.

finish it with PM's guy's we don't need serial bitching to go on around here.

One thing you need to be aware of is that one or two cars in GT4 which have removable roofs but are for some reason not allowed in the spider and roadster races, I can't recall which ones specifically, the TVR Tuscan Speed six is one of them but theres one or two others I think.

What about the MR2?

I remember in GT1 (& GT2?) there was this paintjob where the roof was looking like a detachable roof...

Although I've never seen or heard of a convertible MR2...

There are two of them in GT4. 1999 & 2002 MR2 Spyders.

The Tuscan Speed Six has a targa roof (basically an oversized removable sunroof). Targas are not classified as convertibles, spyders, or roadsters... they are classified as coupes with targa roofs. This is why the Tuscan Speed Six is not allowed to participate in the "Spyder & Roadster" event.

No, those are MRS', I'm talking about an MR2.
Feel free to check your GT4. They are MR2 convertibles "spyders", and the model name is even MR2 so I'm not really sure what you are suggesting?

Well, if Toyota officialy reveals them and sells them as the MR Spyder or MRS, I'd doubt if GT is right or Toyota...
So because there are MR2 convertibles, and they are called MR2 Spyders, GT, Toyota, and every one else in the world is some how wrong, and you are right? ;)

At least now you can say you have seen and heard of an MR2 convertible. :D

I think you are just allowing semantics to get in the way of reason, as the MR-S is the Japanese version of the MR2 Spyder. In either case, they are convertible versions of the MR2.

In GT2 (and various countries) the Toyota MR2 Gen. 3 was called the Toyota MR-S (or MR Spyder). It is also called that in the Japanese version of the game.

Personally I say go for the TVR Griffith. Very close to one of the fastest cars for the price, and is (in my opinion) faster than the Tamora. The best convertible overall, however? Shelby Series One.

Bottom line: Is there a convertible MR2? Yes. Is it in GT4? Yes.

why not the viper SRT-10

OVERKILL ALERT

:D Had to do it. The Viper is a really great car once you get the torque under control, but if you don't take some time to get the feel for it, you'll be burning out every corner (assuming that you aren't using driving aids).

The Viper is also completely unnessesary for the race because you can get a Miata brand-new for about 20,000 Cr. and then spend maybe 5,000 cr. to win the Spyder/Roadster Race. You could also use the Miata for the Tsukuba 9 Hr Enduro once you get to it, and that should be pretty easy.

The Viper costs about 85,000 brand-new, and that's more than 3 times the total cost for our little mini-Miata build-up.

So bottom line, the Miata is better because it get's the most bang for your buck in this situation.
