I recently purchased a sauber c9 and as I would have thought it was better that my previous favorite goup c car, the r92cp. This is clearly just my opinion but what is everyone elses preferance. I seriously appologize because im nearly positive there is already a thread like this...

According to Stormbringer, the best three dedicated Group C cars are:

1. R89C '89

2. Sauber Mercedes C9

3. Jaguar XJR-9 '88

I would have to agree with that, with the R92CP coming in at a close 4th.

The best is a matter of taste.

I drive group C cars only on the Nordschleife and there I prefer the Minolta, R92CP and Bentley.
I'm absolutely no fan of the C9, too twitchy and not enough gears.

I have the Minolta, R89C and just bought the R8 (Team Playstation) and I prefer the R8, however I think the R89C is faster. A good way to drive them is on the newest seasonal, great rewards and fun races :)

The Bentley, Audis, Pescarolos, etc are not group C cars.
I would provide you with a link detailing what exactly Group C was but I am on my iPhone and am Internet retarded, but regardless of that, the Group C cars in game are the 80's Le Mans cars, whereas the newer ones are classified as Le Mans Prototypes (LMP)

There are a few from the 90's, the Group C examples from GT5 are late 80's-early 90's models, like the 787B and R92CP.

The Peugeot 905 Race Car is from 1992 and is an LMP, but other than that exception I believe those dates are true.

True, but I'm fine with five on my R89C so I think I'll be fine with the C9 as well. If only it would show up in UCD *sigh*

There are I believe 7 Group C Cars:
Peugeot 905
Jaguar XJ9
MB Sauber C9
Mazda 787B
Toyota Minolta
Nissan R89C
Nissan R92CP

All 7 are great and its a matter of preference as to which car you are best with. I personally like the C9 and the Minolta myself and I don't like the XJ9 or the R89C, but that doesn't mean they aren't good.

Stormbringer tested the fully tuned cars and even if fully tuned - an R89C can never be faster than Toyota 88C-V. He either can't drive it or he was biased while testing (which is something one mustn't do).
Since I have all Group C cars I put them to the test, I'll post lap times here in a sec.

#1 - Toyota 88C-V | 0:52.2 (not broken in)
#2 - Sauber Mercedes C9 | 0:52.4
#3 - Nissan R89C | 0.52.64 (not broken in)
#4 - Nissan R92CP | 0:52.65 (not broken in)
#5 - Peugeot 905 | 0:53.3
#6 - Jaguar XJR-9 | 0:53.6
#7 - Mazda 787B | 0:54.2

All cars are stock on racing soft tires tested on High Speed Ring (best lap out of 3).
As you can see - the Minolta is by far the fastest, if you disagree then you can't drive it.
It's fact, yes I would like the C9 to be faster but facts are just that - facts.

All of those are Group C cars except for the:

As stated earlier 👍. I'm glad I finally have all of them.

Peugeot 905 is a Group C car as LMP class didn't exist back in 1992/Group C was the active prototype class.
It is a Group C car.

Interesting, but that just 1 track.
Can I poke you into driving these cars on other tracks as well and then add the times?

Try Rome or Laguna Seca.

Well, I stated it as such because my lap times are noticeably slower in my 905 than my Group C cars, even though the 905 is easier to drive. Please excuse my mistake :guilty:.

The Peugeot 905 is definitely a Group C car, probably my favourite :) even though it isn't the fastest. In my opinion the best is probably the 88-CV Minolta, it was the fastest for me out of all the other Group C's I drove at the Nordschleife. I also really like the Nissans!

It's a shame that all the group c cars are standards except the 787b. I hardly ever use them because of this. The 787b is a great handling car though.

The 905 is a Group C car.

In real life the Nissan R89C was faster than the Toyota 88C-V. It even states in the description in Gran Turismo that the Toyota was a handful and not very good aerodynamically. Its a shame the game doesn't reflect this and has it as the fastest, easiest Group C car to drive. I do find it more rewarding to drive the other cars for this reason as I'm sure a few of you do aswell.

The Sauber is a great car. I prefer the Minolta or the 908 over it though. You really can't go wrong with any car in that group imo.

MAZDASPEED! Mazda 787B '91

Just kidding, it's fast but nothing to a Sauber Mercedes C9. I have found through numerous racing and testing around Circuit de La Sarthe, and the Nurburgring. Here are my recorded best times for the Nurburgring Nordschleife.

1. Sauber Mercedes C9 '89: 5:19:899
2. Toyota Minolta 88-CV '88 5:22:736
3. Nissan R92CP '92: 5:31:993
4. Nissan R89 '89: 5:32:513
5. Mazda 787B '91: 5:35:068

*These times are run by me, a human, in fully tuned cars running no assists but Anti-Lock Brakes. They are by no means exceptional, but they are my personal bests, after all of my tuning on these cars. Driven on a Thrustmaster wheel.*

I'm amazed the Sauber is so much faster.
I'll do some testing on wednesday I think, tuesday it;s gonna ben 30° and I'm not risking my PS3 with these temps....

The Peugeot 908 HDI FAP LM '10 from the NCD is my favorite, but it's not a group C it's a Le Mans Prototype. The Courage Pescarola (Peugeot), Bentley Speed 8 are also great but also LMP's. The Jaguar XJR-9 LM race car is a great Group C car from 1988. Tuned it's 974Hp @ 894Kg, that's over 1Hp/Kg!! The Toyota Minolta 88C '89 tuned is 1040Hp @ 850Kg and IMO is a little easier to handle than the Jag. and has an even better power to weight ratio. The Sauber C9 tuned is 983Hp @ 893Kg, the Nissan R92CP '92 tuned is 1043Hp @ 900Kg and the Mazda 787B '91 tuned is 849Hp @ 830Kg. Get them all, they're all great cars and fun to drive.

Ok did some testing.
Fully tuned, but stock setup. Downforce on all cars to max.
On some cars I changed brake balance to keep the rear or front from locking.

I didn't do 'full qualifying' laps, because it would take me too long to drive a perfect lap.
Instead, I was driving all cars as if I were in an enduro.
With that I mean: drive clean, make no mistake, be able to drive same time lap after lap after lap for hours. These are my findings:

Le Mans Prototypes
Audi R8: easy to drive, one of the best LMP's, constant 5:30 laptimes

Audi R10: horrible car with default setup. Could not keep it on road 2 laps in a row.

Bentley Speed 8: under construction

BMW V12: under construction

Courage C60 – Peugeot: under construction

Pescarolo C60 Hybride – Judd: under construction

Pescarolo-Courage – Judd GV5: under construction

Peugeot 908: fairly easy to drive, constant 5:30 but the R8 is easier.

Toyota GT-ONE: fairly easy to drive, slightly worse than Peugeot 908, constant 5:32's

Group C
Jaguar XJR-9: under construction

Mazda 787B: no sir, did not like it at all. Engine has no power on low revs, car feels as
if it's lacking power (and it does, least HP of all I think). Fairly easy to drive, 5:40 laptimes.

Sauber Mercedes C9: I really tried.... but I can't keep this car on the road for 1 entire lap. *maybe* I can do 5:25 with it, but no way I can do the 5:19 that CarCzar did. Car bounces off the curbs all the time, when it starts to slide it just goes and goes and it's impossible to correct it. I seriously doubt anyone can keep this car doing constant 5:30 laptimes without ramming it into a wall at some point. Also, it's slightly underpowered. Did not like it at all.

Nissan R89C: under construction

Nissan R92CP: Not easy to drive because it's a 5 speed. No power.. then suddenly the 1000+hp kicks you in the groin. However it's much better balanced, it does not cling onto curbs like there is stickytape on em, hence I can drive this car 5:30 all day long.

Peugeot 905: Rediculously good car ! Sooooo well balanced ! If I had to drive a 24h of Nordschleife, this would be the car to have. 6 gear, make mistake? No problem just correct it. Car feels like it weighs only 500kg. Only thing is... not enough HP. Loses seconds on the loooong straight. However because it;s so easy to drive I can drive 5:30 all day long.

Toyota MINOLTA 88C-V: My favorite car. I really tried to be unbiassed, drove 1 lap witht his car to set a ghost, then drove all the other cars multiple laps to see where I could improve. But this car is so so easy to drive. The 905 is easier, the Minolta feels heavy, but it has grip and grip and grip. Can hit a curbstone without spinning or bouncing off. 5:30 all day long. Did 1 qualifying lap and drove 5:22:602
Don't think I can get to that 5:19 from the Sauber but I really don't understand how that Sauber did that time anyway...

My conclusion (will try to drive the 'under construction' cars soon)
- 905 is easiest to drive, would use this in enduro
- Minolta is fastest by far, would use this as qualify-car

For pure driving pleasure, and the fact it's premium, I'd have to say the 787B.
