What is the best way to charge a new phone?

So yea, simeple question.

I remember how people discuss this topic way back when cell phones used nimh batteries. Now they all have lithium ion and lithium polymer or something.

So what is the best way to charge a new phone to ensure long battery life in the future? Some say to plug it in right away and let it continuously charge for 12+ hours before using while other sources suggest using up the charge from the factory then fully recharging it.

Read your manual. It will tell you the proper way to charge the phone when you first get it. After the initial break in period, it doesn't matter how or when you charge it because Lion batteries and the like do not have a memory.
