I have a friend who absolutely refuses to listen to Led Zeppelin because he's convinced they're satanists. He liked Stairway to Heaven and then heard it backwards.

Anyway, I'm going to toss in the whole genre of Avant-Garde music, like Revolution 9. Lennon wanted the listener to picture a revolution from the song. None of the other band members wanted it on the album. I can see why.

I'm a pretty huge Beatles fan, (as you can probably tell) but even I know that they can do wrong. Example number one: This song.* Revolution 9 is actually the biggest reasons that I don't listen to the entire album in one go, like I do with many other albums.

You're definitely right about it about it being a terrible fit for the album, which is pretty surprising considering how many different types of music are on this one album. I have the stereo version of all their albums but I wonder what this song would sound like in mono.

*Example number two is all pretty much all of the Yellow Submarine album.

It would probably sound like someone fiddling with the volume knob in the studio... ...If I recall, the sound goes in a circle instead of just left to right, so you'll still get the oscillation.

There are some stinkers on the White Album (still one of my all-time favorites) and even with songs I do kind of like, there are issues. For example, I snicker a bit every time I hear the "American" accent used on "Rocky Raccoon"... feels kind of forced.
