For Chrismas my mum is getting me one big present. I thought i wanted to get a xbox 360 but i don't know now. I'm deciding between a xbox 360 or a ipod touch. What do you think will give me the most value for the money?

If you don't have an PS3 get one. I see you have PSN so I assume you do.

In all honesty get BF3 and something else. I'd go for an iPod Touch if that's really what you want. I wouldn't buy an Xbox because besides Forza it's pointless to me.

My opinion, I'd take the XBOX 360 over the iPod touch because there's nothing much the iPod can do to me. If the iPod is replaced with an iPhone, I'd definitely reconsider my choice...

EDIT:

Actually you could set a poll to see what people prefer much easier. Go to 'Thread Tools' and in there select 'Add Poll'...

I think it's pretty silly to ask people what they think. It's your gift, get what makes the most sense to YOU. Do you enjoy music? Do you go out and wish you had music to listen to? Get the iPod. Do you enjoy gaming more? Do you have a system already? Do you want the Xbox exclusives? Get an Xbox. All you're going to get by asking here is a different opinion from each person based on their own situation. I personally wouldn't want either as I have an MP3 player and a gaming system, by my opinion isn't much use to you since obviously you want one or the other. My advice to you is think about it on your own, don't go wasting your mum's money by settling on the popular choice on a forum with people who aren't in your situation.

Thank you for your opion but if you have nothing constructive to post don't post at all.

As for an ipod I would ask for a classic because I don't browse the internet(As I got a lg rumor touch phone for that) and that you can have a 160GB storage space for all of your music, videos, podcasts, and audiobook files. Plus an ipod Classic is ideal if you want to take it with you in the car and have an easy control. That's my ideal ipod and I have an 80GB Ipod Classic that has been keep on going for nearly 5 years now.

You could ask her something that you will use for years and years on. You could ask her for a laptop that you can use for your classwork, awesome laz-boy recliner for video gaming(:sly:, Got one but it finally broke after 25 years where the spring snapped. It was the most comfortable 19 years in my life!), and a fanatec steering wheel and clubsports(Got mine for $322. Got the GT3 and it's good. Could look into the GT2 for it works on Playstation, PC, and Xbox or the new CSR wheels!).

Seriously? Calling me out for not saying anything constructive? I'll get a warning for this but you're an idiot. I gave you the most useful information in the entire thread.

I gave you the most useful information in the entire thread.

I'll second that. The thread might as well have asked 'What do I want for tea?'. Or actually, 'What do I want for tea - lasagne, or the season 3 boxset of The Sopranos?'

It's a gift! Get whichever you want. Or failing that, if you don't want either, don't ask for either. Seems the most logical course of action to me, and sounds like it matches your feelings anyway.

This IS the MOST constructive reply here. You know what you want. You know what your situation is. If you're one of those people who bases your wants on other peoples opinion, then I don't see how you're going to be happy come Christmas.

In my opinion he is asking us for suggestions, not making him buy one product over another product. My suggestion was for him to think what he wants to use. That is what he needs and will be used for several years or else it's wasted money.

Save up for a Vita when it comes out. I bet it'll have a music player. And you can connect it to your PS3 for whatever

Actually he has a point. I've said my opinion but forgot to sate this. It really depends on what suits you the best. Music or gaming? If you like music, get the iPod while XBOX 360 for gaming. If you want both, you might want to consider something else that has both.

But since you wanted our opinion, we've given ours. Now it's up to you on what you want as your Christmas present.

One plays music and one plays games. Do you want to listen to music, or do you want to play games? I would get a 360 and buy a cheap MP3 player. I've always thought the ipod touch was for people who wanted to look really cool listening to music more then for just listening to music. With a cheap mp3 player you will get better battery life, and still be able to listen to the same music at the same quality as the ipod touch.

This pretty much concludes your decision.

My opinion is that you should get an Xbox. I have an ipod touch myself, they're overrated (Apart from the fact they have AMAZING battery life compared to the phone equivalents).

First some questions need to be asked before any of us can make a recommendation;

1) Do you have an MP3 player or phone that already plays music?
2) Will you use your Xbox 360 regularly or will it gather dust next to your PS3?
3) Why don't you just ask for money or get both? :D You can get an Xbox (new condition, but old model) for £100 these days easy if you shop around, and you could get a second hand itouch for <£100 too. You can get the slim 360 for £150 new and get an older model itouch for £50-60. I don't know how that converts into your local currency, but i'm guessing everything is slightly more as you live in Australia.

This is simply not true. If you get the wifi version and turn the wifi off, you get excellent battery life. I recently had a trip to cornwall and I charged my ipod touch before I went down (2nd gen, 8GB Wifi). I used it on the 10 hour journey on the megabus down and again on the 10 hour journey back. I used it at various points inbetween. Two to three weeks after I got back it still had half charge, despite 20+ hours of playtime and an additional 360+ hours of standby time (i.e. music paused, but the ipod had not been powered down). It had not been docked at any point either. That said, a standard ipod with a smaller screen would probably have better battery life, but as long as you minimise the time where the screen is on there is very little in it. Though if you use it for touch screen games, the battery life is severely reduced (See question 1, do you already have a decent phone? if so, skip the itouch).

^ It's like my 4GB Walkman NWZ-E443B which Sony estimates to have a battery life of around 4 hours, yet I can get upwards of 30 hours of playtime between charges, and it spends a lot of time on hold/off. I recommend getting cold, hard cash so you can buy whatever you want.

Tell your mum you want cash.

Put it in the bank and let interest do the rest.

Save for your first car.

It's true. We don't know what you want from the gift. If you want games, XBOX. If you want music and casual games, iPod.

I'd only get an iPod if you don't have a personal listening device.... the wifi is nice and all, but sites generally load slow, and it is a portable device so unless you go to places with unlocked wifi, you won't be getting much out of it.

"Oh but what about games?"... Console games vs handheld games... I'd take console games anyday.
