What is your "test track"?

If it's a European car I go to level 22 A spec - European series and test at the tracks there (Rome, Deep Forest and Monza), that earns me 300,000 credits.

If it's a non European car I go to Level 19 Polyphoy Digital cup and test at the tracks there (Madrid, Trail Mountain and Grand Valley), that also earns me 300,000 credits.

If it's a Le Mans race car I'll go to level 24 Dream Car Championship (Indy, Monza, Tokyo, Sarthe and Nurburgring), that pays 750,000 credits.

This way I get paid to do my testing :)

It's not perfect, but for a preliminary test of a new car, it's OK for seeing how it performs and finding out how it handles etc.

Suzuka. I has a nice combination of corners and straights with room to go off-road without running into a wall.
 
If im tuning a car and want to get the basics down as quickly as possible, i generally go for Deep Forest, great mix of long speed-carrying corners, sharp corners at the end of long straights, S bends and the corner before the tunnel is very good at highlighting understeer in FF/4WD or oversteer in FR/MR cars.
 
Top gear test track. After all it was designed by engineers at lotus to show the weekness of any given setup. That and it's a long wide runway for screwing around on
 
I use either SSR7 or La Sarthe w/o chicanes to test gearing.

I use the Nordschliefe to test suspension compliance.

I use Tsukuba to test handling balance.
 
I use Fuji Speedway and Eiger Nordwand short. I love those two tracks and use them to test and benchmark my cars.
 
I personally use the Top Gear Test Track but also Sarthe (with chicanes) for some of the bigger/faster cars
 
Nordschleife mostly, though i often test the top speeds of cars at SSR7 and i am a fan of the top gear test track for drifting.

You do pretty much what I do then, less the Dream Car Championship... I love whipping my cars around Deep Forest in the Euro Championship and Trial Mountain in the PD Cup especially! I try to earn back a car's purchase price while testing/perfecting it...
 
Personally, I use the La Sarthe with chicanes to determine a car's best overall transmission.

Just to explain myself, the majority of tracks don't have straights that long, therefore making the Ring's straight irrelevant to determine a car's best transmission (SSR7 is plain useless because it's basically just two straights).

However, using the La Sarthe's first straight until the first chicane is helpful to determine what's the maximum speed a car can reach without hitting the top speed, until you gotta brake. After a few tests per car, you can determine a car's best overall transmission (for every track in general) if you don't feel like finding a optimal transmission for every single track per car (like me :P ).

I also found a little pattern, the best overall transmission is always around 6-7 white bars for every car (there are exceptions of course).

Used to be the Nordschleife since we got it in GT4 but now we have the Top Gear Test Track I usually go there to test my cars. It's probably just because I love the show but it's also a nice short track.

+1 :) I test most cars I buy on the TGTT and if they succeed to impress me I let them run wild on the Nurburgring and also I second that runway it's just great for doughnuts and burnouts especially with the G25 :)
 
Racing and Super Cars Grand Valley.

Stock cars Grand Valley East.

You can tell all you need about a car with the first hairpin right hander at Grand Valley...

If I just want to get a feel for the speed I go to SSR7. If I want to get used to handling it and deciding what I have to tune, I go Top Gear.. Really the best two for testing in my opinion.
