What is your upload/download speed? This is how to improve.

Just got my DSL running. Notice the speed differences from what the DSL router reports vs. the speed test with a server 150 miles away:
Thats much better Pako congrats! Online gaming is much better when you have a good connection. :)

Ive been having a little bit of trouble with my download speed.

Supposedly I have comcast roadrunner, and should have a 10-100mbs download speed according to my father. The thing is, on most speed tests, i hit an average of 3000-4000kbs

Is there anything thats stopping my download speed from reaching its full potential?
Contact your internet provider and tell them your stats. They will come out for free and test everything. Could be something simple like your modem.

WOW!! Comcast just increased our internet connection for free.
Our last test was download 19474 , upload 2077 :dopey: :dopey: 👍

I heard comcast has a cap on how many gigs a month your allowed to download. Can anyone confirm this?

Yes-ish, my internet was going very slow when I had them and the customer service rep told me it was because I had used all my download allotment that month and rambled of some number of how much I had used. They told me I could spend $30 more dollars per month to increase it, at which time I told them they could cancel my service. They upgraded me for free in order to keep me, although a few months later I switched over to the better and cheaper AT&T service and have never looked back.

Honestly I don't know how true it is because Comcast service reps did nothing buy lie to me every time I called them. I hate their service and I think they are probably one of the worst companies out there to get internet from, especially after seeing how pleasant AT&T was to deal with.

I am getting faster!

I have been with Comcast for at least 5-6 years and never heard of this cap and we are online all the time.

You can be online all the time, if you are downloading a lot they will notify you.

I just got a new service from time warner. It required a 2 year contract but hey you cant beat this speed for 79.99 a month. And thats with phone service.
new test.

Good? Bad? I have no idea.

Extremely bad. Make sure you are never hosting games. You are way under the minimum.

Upload is the most important especially if you want to host games.

Anything around 300kb is low and shouldnt host most games.

Anything around 500kb is good and can host quite a few games.

Anything over 700kb is great and can host most of the games.

If you have anything higher than 900kb then you will be an excellent host and usually wont have any problems online at all.

This is a general rule but not true in all cases.

I never play games on my PC anyway, so that won't be a problem :) Didn't realise this thread was aimed at gaming - I assumed it was just for intrest's sake.

Oh yeah it was mainly aimed at gaming. You dont play PS2, xbox, xbox360, or PS3 online? If you dont play any of your games online then you are fine.
