Man... why don't you just take the advice given, or at least go BUY A CHEAP USB stick to back up your game save? Those packets received etc have nothing to do with anything. Go back up you game save data.

EDIT..

Did I say back up game save? Oh yeah I did as well as a bunch of other people. Just making sure.

PS Go buy a USB STICK and back up your game save data.

Believe it or not, nothing around here has a USB Stick. Not even Walmart. I live in a rather dry location.

If you would have read my last post entirely, I wasn't talking about GT5. I was talking about what happened to my internet connection after all of this fell apart.

If anyone wants to post here, please, say something useful. If not useful, perhaps kind? I don't care much for asking simple questions and getting responses like this.

Believe me it is usefull since you do not seem to understand the imortance of saving your game save data. Oh, but hey, feel free to lose your entire GT5 career because you say you can't find a USB memory stick locally. Did you consider buying one online? Did you answer people who recommended borrowing one from a friend?

Your post asking sbout packets is after you saying: "Since this happened, my computer has went down the hole" and: "Coincidence? Or, are the failures of my PS3 and PC related in some way?"

So I said those packet counters have nothing to do with anything. It's more than you knew about it so what does that tell you?

Go back up your save game data or you will most likely lose it given your situation. Saying a local store doesn't have a USB memory stick doesn't matter. Get one some other way then.

People give you valuable advice and you ignore them or don't answer them making people repeat themselves.

Asking about your school's internet connection pertains to GT5 save game data backup and recover how exactly?

Anyway.. do what you want.. I guess you have it handled.

I live in Kentucky too, so I know that this can sometimes be true, especially if you are in the mountains. If you don't mind me asking, where in KY?

But if you have a 60GB launch PS3 you can also use an SD memory card that you can pick up in any place with a photo center, like Walgreens or Rite Aid.

Even Taylorsville (where I grew up) has a Radio Shack.

Worst case scenario, buy one online if you can.

And out of curiosity, are you having these issues with any other games?
 
I get the same error even with usb sticks....usb sticks are not the problem...and they are the correct usb sticks.
 
To clarify this up, no one said that usb's are the problem, we just say that you should back up your data so you can do/ try more things and rest assure that you wont loose your game progress.

and cause maybe the problem is the HDD, you should try (by any means) to back up your data wile you can.

The proper thing to do is (if all other suggestions from the other members and me failed)

1 - sign in to psn via pc to see if the profile is OK, if it isnt call sony.
2 - Back up as many data as you can or at least the saves.
3 - Reset the PS3 (via recovery menu) and format the HDD
4 - Set up the ps3 with the user that the save/s belongs.
5 - Sign in to PSN (use existing account)
6 - Check if the Console is activated for this user (that will probably will be but just in case)
If all goes well, then you should have a GT5 save fully working again.

Either way if the PS3 cant log in to PSN, but the user and the save data are in place GT5 is able to boot and load the save data.
 
The HDD may be corrupt, if your PC also had problems at the same time, it may be due to electrical issues/lightning.

Take the HDD out of your PS3
Connect it to your PC (you may need to buy a cable that fits)
Get a program called GetDataBack for Fat32
Take complete backup of drive (this program will do that even if the HDD is corrupt, depending on how bad it is)
Buy a new HDD
Copy backup to this drive
Insert new drive to PS3
