What kind of G25/27 shifter paddles would you guys like to see? <install videos@ pg3>

I am thinking of making some custom shifter paddles for those with aftermarket steering wheels installed on their G25/27s. I would appreciate any inputs on the shape, sizes, etc of the paddles, or any particular styles you guys prefer.

You could be different and make use of wood as paddle shifters. Sure it would be harder to work with to make a design but personally I like to work with stuff that is always harder to work with. I just really enjoy using my own finished projects such as my NES PC.
 
HN7 - The first picture is actually where I got my inspiration for the current shape, of course the mounting location is different on the G25/G27 which I've altered to adapt.

Sturdiness of the paddles is definitely a priority. At the moment I am leaning towards aluminum in either similar thickness or slightly thicker than the standard paddles to keep prices affordable. Though carbon fiber is also possible.

nick09 - Interesting suggestion, I'll definitely keep that in mind as a possibility. 👍

stega - Thanks for the support. While looking though paddle designs on different cars I've noticed most exotics today, have very small paddles that pretty much only covers the width of both index and middle fingers. I've made some renderings with similar sized paddles and they just don't look right. :indiff:

Having +/- signs cut out is also a possibility, as well as different colors (such as black instead of metal finish), of course all these will affect the final pricing, but should be very reasonable.

I might just have to fiddle with the idea too..

Are you going to use laser cutter / water cutter for the metal versions?

Awesome! Thank you guys for the suggestions.

Paddles will be machine cut for precision.
I will most likely make them in two different styles; a road car version (cross between the initial concept and what Mars Attacks suggested) and a smaller rally/open kart version (similar the pictures tinker posted) for smaller steering wheels.

I'm with him on that idea. Mine would go from the 1:30 position to the 4:30 position on the upshift paddle and 7:30 to 10:30 on the downshift paddle.

This would be good if you could integrate it with your wheel adaptor and all the wires that just plug and play. You know like how you can attach and detach it from the main unit. Just like an F1 wheel. I would definitely buy one from you.

Good idea, however this would definitely drive up the overall price and I'm not sure if it's worth the difference.

My goal is to make them direct replacements of the standard paddle to keep things simple and allow people to have a choice of upgrade separately.

I think majority of people who want the upgrade arent to mechanically inclined as well as electronically. So I just thought if the whole assembly was just one unit and easy to install people would pay the extra cost. You should do a poll on how much people would pay for such device. Just my two cents IMO.
 
Thank you for the input, it's definitely something I'll consider in the future. There is still a bit of R&D on the shape and sizing.

Ease of installation is definitely the focus, though it's got to balance out with other limiting factors. Expect similar style of step-by-step installation videos tutorials. 👍
 
I'm definitely interested in a set, these would be the finishing touch to my cockpit. Oh and I'm not particular about how they look I just want it to function as well as the original setup (no bling for me) . But I guess the last updated design you posted looks best.

I was just measuring the paddles and stock the paddle is 1" 3/8 from the out side of the wheel, and with a 350mm wheel the paddles are 2" 3/4 from the wheel. So it should need to be an 1" 3/8 longer. I know people use various sized wheels, and i thought you could have various holes layed out (but not drilled to ensure strength) giving it some flexibility, Then it would be cut down if necessary and drilled and tapped or maybe a self tapping screw would do it (they aren't self tappers as is)

I've got my wheel dismantled for mods and repairs at the moment, and I was considering paying a local shop to fab something up but I would rather support your efforts.

I think that is very good idea, and should be actually quite easy to do also 👍

If an initial mount was used to attach to the G25/G7wheels fittings then you could have this small mount for "your paddles" to attach.
The important factor here would be to enable exchanging paddles without having to do further dismantle or remove the wheel again.

Youll have a fair idea how 260mm - 350mm real size wheels may suit different sizes/shapes of paddles. Also would it be a good idea to maybe have an ability to also allow use of a spacer to change how close the paddles are in relation to the back of the wheel?

Just ideas as I dont have any personal experience yet with using a full size wheel on the Logitech.

At the moment these paddles are meant to be direct replacement of the original and I am trying to keep everything as simply as possibly. I am definitely interested in developing different variations in the future that can offer much more adjust-ability for those looking for it.

Initial test fit. Fits directly onto the original mounting holes using original mounting screws.

So far I am very happy with the result, paddles feel incredibly solid (more so than my carbon fiber paddles I made before), still got a bit more testing to do.
I am looking to anodized them in either silver or black to give a quality finish.

Just a thought. They should be made as light as possible remaining strong enough to not flex. The reason I liked the carbon fiber ones was the weight mostly. Honestly I am somewhat worried that between my 350/330mm wheel + adapter + metal paddles the wheel is noticeably heavier and may be overworking/overheating my g27 what do you think chilli?? Is there any real risk here or am I just overreacting???
 
10 months since I've replaced the steering wheel and setting force feedback strength to max in GT5P, I have yet to experience any abnormality (much less overheating) after many long hours of heavy use (drifting).

These paddles are actually much lighter than the standard G25/G27 paddles. They weight 30g each (per side) vs 70g of the originals and are wayyyy more solid than my CF paddles.

Ok cool, just needed some reassuring I've only had your adapter/wheel for about a month or 2 now so I do not have as much time/testing with the wheel as you. Glad to hear they are very solid and light, and they look great so far. Black anodizing sounds good to me ;) And I'm ready to buy.. you just lemme know when your ready w/ a set!
