An intriguingly small car...I saw one in 1998 in the Barcelona area, I thought. But my uncle took a picture of it in Amsterdam in the same year.

Does anyone know?

Can't help if we can't see. :p

Yuck, and i thought small cars didn't get any uglier than the "smart". That is ugly, and also not small enough to fit in the bbc office building (for those of you that dont know what i mean, watch topgear:tup:)

What is the point of making a car so small and ugly that wont fit in an office building? Most pointless car ever.

I get the "dreaded red cross of no picture" on Pupik's post too.
However, I have been waiting for a good opportunity to use this smiley! :D

Why must a car fit in a office building?

Nice smiley.

I personally believe that small cars are not the way until they are made safe enough to withstand a decent crash. And they have to look good, which that car fails on.

All small cars fail when it comes to beauty. I dont think there is many good small cars (look wise). That top gear episode was great, he drove past the news room whilst it was on air.....

That car looks closest to the Ligier Nova, but the French car is a bit too wide. That car looks older, too, as if it was made in the 1990s, or even the 1980s.

It also looks dangerously unstable. But then, who would be taking that car on corners exceeding even 30km/h?

Sorry about the non-image, that's what I get for hotlinking. For what it's worth, my uncle took the photo, and a buddy of his started up Pbase, so I thought he'd appreciate the traffic. So nobody has an answer for this...nobody's guess has come close in Google?

It's larger than a Peel P50, but smaller than a Smart. I'm starting to think it's electric, or even a closed-top "golf" cart. But I saw one in person in [wikipedia]Sitges[/wikipedia] (not Barcelona, as my memory banks are warming up), but I was looking for a parking space, and not concentrating on the brand of car.

I'm not sure if I have your answer but I swear it does look similar to the Aixam but somehow the car above looks to squared..... however, if you have a lot of free time, you can check out this site and see what model your car is. Only problem is there is just too many!!!!!

I don't know what kind of car this is, but I found this site:
http://www.darkroastedblend.com/2007/08/worlds-smallest-vehicles.html

A quote midway down the page states:
"I personally have spotted a few "little ones" on the streets in Amsterdam:"

Followed by this:

The bottom one may be the 'luxury' model.:)

Edit: I think it may be a Ganta GLX????

8" wheels. The whole car isn't even 8'.

Apparently, it's the Canta. Thanks a lot for the answer, though. (Google assumed I meant "gangsta" when I typed "Ganta"...)

Above-mentioned Site
One of the many odd and unexpected treats of any visit to Amsterdam is getting a chance to see (and possibly trip over) what might be the world’s smallest production car. The “Canta” is manufactured in the Netherlands by a small company called Waaijenberg, which also appears to make a more realistic-sized car and also motorized wheelchairs in a three-pronged attack benefiting the less than mobile citizens of the area. At first glance they appear to be a driving wedge cut out of a more real car, but upon closer inspection you’ll see that they’ve got all 4 wheels and there is room for tiny engine up front.

If you’ve seen a Smart Car in person and were shocked by its size, prepare to break out in a fit of laughter when you see a Canta because you could easily fit this thing inside a Smart Car if you had a good can opener and a sturdy friend to help out with the lifting.

A few other bits and bobs; apparently it debuted in 1998.

* No driver’s license required!
* You can legally drive them in bike paths and (the company says) through shopping centers
* They all feature a Honda engine of either 160 cc or 200 cc
* There are 4 different models, and almost all are manufactured to custom specifications according to the owners’ desires
* The most expensive of the 4 models, the Inrij-Canta, is specifically built to be driven by someone still in their wheelchair. The chair wheels into the rear door and then right behind the steering wheel.
* The Dutch version can reach speeds up to 50 kmh (30 mph), while a German electric model only goes half that speed, and a UK version goes up to 70 kmh, which evidently are the respective maximums for novelty vehicles or vehicles for invalids.

We have tons of those here... you don't need a driver's licence, however, you need a motorcycle licence. They're usually the car of choice for the dummies who can't pass the driving exam. They also go up to the super potent 400cc engine.

Top speed is around 60-80 kph... problem is because they can reach 80kph. they've been allowed on the highways. Trust me, nothing spells OMFG better than finding one of these merging into your lane when you're doing around 120 kph.

LoL it's the Canta!! I see those here in Amsterdam ALL the time... Mostly old people driving them.... Its handy for them as it makes them mobile again and that thing is easy to park everywhere here in Holland, where parking space is scarce as is.

They are not allowed on big roads though here... As Tom already stated, you need a scooter/motorcycle drivers license to drive one... Everytime I see one I always think how cool it would be to do an engine swap with a Hayabusa engine or something and really fat tires on the rear wheels... You'd probably be popping wheelies everywhere you go! :p
