I'm just curious what languages are spoken by the GTP community. That doesn't mean that you learned it in school, never use it, and probably couldn't have a basic conversation with someone in that language. I mean you speak the language. If Spanish were one of your languages you could watch Spanish soap operas and follow along (even as horrible as they appear to be).

I put down English and Spanish. Though I'm not 100% fluent in Spanish, I know it well enough to carry on conversation and get across the message that I want to get across. I may have to ask people to slow down and repeat themselves, but I can usually understand what they're saying too. I can partially understand television shows in Spanish and can follow along with the plot.

I've been studying it at the university level for a year and a half now, and also have spent around 8 months of the past two years in Peru, where I learned so much more than I ever have in Spanish class.

I'm almost fluent in English.

Like most Englishmen abroad i just speak English s l o w l y and LOUDLY until johnny foreigner bloodywell understands me.

Finnish, English, Swedish and partly German. Finnish and English are the easy ones, Swedish takes some serious effort but can be done and my knowledge of German is more or less limited to understanding written text.

I marked only Portuguese (our native language in Brazil) and English, but latin languages are pretty similar, specially Portuguese and Spanish. So I guess I could've marked Spanish too because it's easy to understand, although they speak much faster than us.

English and French. I'm learning Japanese. It's slow going, but at least I'm making progress.

English
Dutch
Italian

I took a Latin class in HS and all I remember is AMAS, AMAT, AMANT and I don't think that's correct.

Which languages, surely?

Some would say that I speak an approximation of English.

English, German, Spanish and I'm learning a little French but I'm not fluent in it. I can follow whats being said better than I can converse in Spanish and German but I can get by in most conversations.

English & French, though it's gotten rusty. Could speak some Spanish, but not anymore. Put down Italian was well. My grandfather was always trying teach it to me.

I can speak English in various dialects and enough German to get around Deutschland without any problems. I'm not fluent and you will know it's not my native language but I've never had anyone complain.

English, Italian, French, Latin, Chinese, and Vietnamese. If you don't belive me, fine. I understand your opinion. How can a 13 year old boy know 6 languages? If you must know, I was taught Vietnamese and Chinese as a kid, Was forced to learn Latin by my American grandmother, and I couldn't decide to take Italian or French, so I did both. No I am not lying.

In order of appearance:

Latvian
English
French

100% fluent. I could write college-level essays in all three.

Can anyone speak Esperanto?

English, Russian and Pigeon french. I do also dabble in a little german.

Disclaimer: Thats a complete lie because I cannot speak russian.

I speak fluent English (shocker right there.) And I'm currently taking Spanish in school right now, I know enough to get around in an emergency.

English and German, and thats about it. I do want to learn Russian, but I don't have the time to do so...

I speak Southern English, a little bit of Spanish (I can say hi, how are you, and ask if they know English), and a good bit of French but not enough to be fluent.

+1 I checked English (duh), Spanish, and beep beep beep. I know words in almost every language but like Max said I can only carry partial convos in Spanish. Sometimes I doubt many Americans speak proper English--you should hear the amount of slang and improper words I hear at work (both jobs).

You are making the claim. The onus is on you to provide proof.

You may know the odd word or phrase from all 6 languages, but I do not believe you could hold a "deep conversation" in all 6.

I think you are lying.
