A quick thread, in your opinion guys, what makes a Gt become a true GT franchise?

Do you think, GT5 is loyal to its main ideals?
Some fans may be dissapointed, other may be happy.

Do you think that GT5 it's like GT3?
I mean, few cars and the first GT on a new PS platform, with new technologies to impreve the physics and graphics.

PD.- not a wishlist thread please:tup:

For me Gran Turismo is about passion for automotive realism, competition and history. And for the bond between man and machine that is The Automobile.

And it's about those passions being present in both the creator and the fans.

If it says Gran Turismo on it, is developed by Polyphony Digital, and published by Sony, then it is Gran Turismo in my mind.:sly:

Well said. My thoughts exactly.

You know, that's almost exactly what I was about to post.:sly:

Circuit racing with cars. Not an open world game with motorbikes and gymkhana as some would like to change GT.

Exactly. It's the passion people like Kazunori Yamauchi have for cars poured into a videogame.

As long as Kaz is behind the GT franchise, it's a GT game.
Much like Hideo Kojima and the MGS franchise.

👍 Exactly what I was thinking, except that you put it in words that didn't even occur to my mind.

If I am driving and my complaints are all about my skills and none about the game, then it's Gran Turismo.

My impressions of former volumes of the franchise were always about being the best looking, most car filled and most attentive title of the genre,,,, Until GT5. Sorry to say it, but GT 4.5 (may as well call it that, since most of the vehicle content is directly from the PS2 title) has been a huge letdown for me. My expectations, based on PD's promises, of the first PS3 version were high, and for a while it was good, but after a while, all the cracks opened up.

What makes a Gran Turismo title? Well, based on GT5 - Over-promise, under deliver and poorly implement features. Then add in some extra features that don't really expand the game. (dress-up mode, un-deletable museum cards)

Sure, this may seem like a very negative view, but GT5 has knocked my confidence in the series. I've owned all the major titles from their launch dates new, but the next installment I'll be getting it from a used store, so not to waste my money on something that'll possibly just disappoint me all over again.

GT is about passion and feel.

But sometimes GT is frustration.

Take a car you like, around a track, and notice all the subtle things, feel the car, sense the whole spirit of the act of driving.

But still, GT has always been hindered by technical limitations.

This game is not "a Gran Turismo", it is "The Gran Turismo".

The question is "What makes a GT title?". So the OP was correct, you are wrong.

Let me thinks:

Jazz music for the menu screens
Needing plasters for ones thumbs for the licence tests
The Entertainer
A monkey
Original tracks that are sometimes better than real ones

But still, GT has always been hindered by technical limitations.

Same issue MGS... limited resources. PD give a lot of work if not all the resources to the graphical department. with 256MB ram... i guess that they "cut" the final product.

Gran Turismo to me means to blend very cool, state of the art things, and mind-numbingly illogically dumb things. You cannot have one without the other.
